Apartments in Manchester

I was going to buy in Manchester (Salford to be exact) and I've never more more pleased to be messed about by a developer.
"We want to exchange in for weeks so make sure you have a firm mortgage offer in place"
So I did, and paid all the associated costs. They pulled out and said they didn't want to sell it to me. I had had an offer for ~£135K accepted and that was 'discounted' by the develper by ~£23k
Now?

Thats the same block I was going to buy in. Mine would probably by a little more expensive that that given it was another floor higher and had a balcony (a real one, not one of these ones you can't fit a chair on)
There are probably so many apartments in Manchester unoccupied you can make a crazy offer on rent and someone will accept it because they are desperate to get somebody in their paying any rent.0 -
Thanks for your replies - we are specifically looking to buy a property to live in at the weekend and sometimes during the week. Also thinking if it would work that we live in it at the weekend and rent it out Sunday through to Friday morning - was wondering with the BBC moving north soon if anybody thinks it would be realistic to expect some BBC workers to want a flat in Manchester for the working week and commute back down to London for the weekend - what do mse'ers think to this - do you think it could be a possibility so long as we had a flat with a parking space

I can't imagine that renting arrangement being a viable option myself, I think that works well in London, but not up here"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
I can only see it working if the property was a two-bed. Monday-to-Friday lodging is becoming quite popular for those who work far from the family home but not having the place as your primary/principal residence I fear could have the potential to throw up some legal difficulties down the road0
