Apartments in Manchester

  • Hi Raq - my boyf and I have just exchanged on an apartment in Castlefield, a great location in Manchester I am sure most people would agree :-) They are currently in the process of being built - due to finish Spring 2009 - which means we were in a strong position to negotiate a good price.

Most people will say you would be mad to buy a new build in Manchester City Centre at the moment but as long as you negotiate a good price and its a property you intend to enjoy for a good few years then I don't see the problem. These posters who think that 2 bed city centre apartments are going to be going for under 100k are deluded if you ask me - yes I would agree if you are buying a soul-less box in one of the cheaper builds they could be right but if you buy in the right development in the right area I don't think you can go wrong.

As for people suggesting Didsbury, Chorlton or wherever to someone who wants city centre living is crazy - the suburbs as nice as they are, most certainly do not compare to city centre living.

I am sure a lot of people are going to start telling me how wrong I am but this is my opinion, right or wrong it may be.

Its one example but we're only at the start of this crash - IMO plenty more to come like this

Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...

To be fair, that's a guide price at an auction, not like an asking price with an Estate Agent.

Yeah, I am holding off and staying at home for now or at the very most going to rent in Didsbury as it's fairly cheap and a goodish place.

Think Didsbury is the best option, it's where I have looked at rooms and the transport is very good. Buses at all times of night and lots of "young professionals".

Have you reviewed the previous sales (or not as the case may be) at auction for properties of this type in this area? You may be surprised. Someone posted a link to it on another thread earlier today

    Quick bump.

After saving quite furiously for a few months now I reckon I have enough to get a deposit on a house. I do still like the idea of an apartment in manchester. If of course they can go cheap enough.

I have seen an advert on Rightmove for a flat with a price of £95k but the reading says there is an offer in for £75k which got me wondering how low these things will go.

I am guessing I will be told to be sensible and stay well away from an apartment/flat/box etc!

I know this is an old thread but just wondered what peoples thoughts were on flats/apartments in Manchester - we are thinking of buying maybe a flat in Chepstow House or the Sorting Office and wondered if anybody has any experience of these or other blocks maybe in the Northern Quarter. Not sure if prices have 'bottomed' out in the City or do you think with the number of flats for sale they will plummet further. Thanks in advance for any help/opinions/advice you can give and please remember to be gentle as it is something we are mulling over and not definitely going to be doing

IMO, you might get a bargain in some parts of the city or outer city but the Northern Quarter is one of the more popular areas at present...rentwise it is quite expensive so I would expect sales to be similar.
