Can you see the big picture I attached with post #2819. The bank name is on the top left of the screen.
The fee is usually displayed at that point in the process. As you can see (I assume you can), only the withdrawal limit/per transaction is displayed. I hit the 2,000,000 button on the bottom left and the cash came out immediately. Requested receipt. No receipt came out for either transaction.
Have you ever used an ATM belonging to that bank? (if you can see the picture that is.) Hard to miss if you can see it! :)

Seems your experience has been corroborated. Glad you got your money back. :)
  • withdraw it for free? most bank charge for ATM foreign withdrawals, including Nationwide. Their fee is around 3% if I'm not wrong

That’s why mse recomends using a Clarity card.

or Barclaycard Platinum Travel CC, Santander Zero CC, Creation Everyday CC, Starling Bank debit card...
  • Hi not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but wondered if anyone can help. My son has been travelling and brought home about £100 of Bolivian notes. He can't find anywhere that will exchange the notes for £'s. It's not a closed currency but we've tried Post Office, Banks, Exchange bureaus (even at the airport when I went on holiday) and nowhere will accept them. The only place I have found is a Fourex machine which apparently will change any currency notes or coin BUT I've tried 4 (in different places) and none of them have been working. He could really do with this money in his bank account rather than sitting in a drawer.
    Thank you.

    Hi,

Will be travelling to Portugal in June - was contemplating loading up a FairFX card with £500 worth of euros - I can see there's a £35 bonus through MSE but I also noticed quidco have £20 cashback.

Would I be able to combine the 2 does anyone know?

I have no idea about the answer to your question, but I always wonder why people use pre-loaded cards. There are ATM charges for cash, fees to get left over Euros back in £ (or monthly fees if you leave money on a card that expires), hefty fees if you lose the card, etc.

Maybe you can explain the advantage over an appropriate credit card?
  • FairFX will almost certainly be looking at the website that you came from last; if it was the MSE link you get the bonus, if it was quidco you will get cashback, anywhere else you get nothing. This generally makes sure that you can claim no more than 1 perk.
I agree with etienneg; I can not see a benefit in this over a good credit card.
Personally I use Halifax Clarity. Great from credit payments. If you need cash, get it from ATMs (always select the local currency charging, NOT GB pounds) and the only fee you will pay is a few pence interest (I often pay the GBP equivalent to the card account even before the charge appears).
  • Hi all,

I am due to travel out and work in Cape Town for 2-3 months at the start of May. My Santander 123 account is obviously a big no no for spending due to all of their charges.

Any recommendations on what would be the best method of spending? CC and pay it off at the end of the month or go with a pre-paid travel card? Would appreciate any advice :)

    Thanks

    Gary

Take at least two, preferably including Starling Bank. Avoid the kind of prepaid card issued by the Post Office, supermarkets or travel agents, which will cost more overall than your Santander card.
