That's a shocking price for blackberries.
Though saying that people buy bottled water.:eek:0 -
If only we were fortunate to live close to accessable forest fruits, I would be there quick as
Similarly, if our tap water was better tasting, I wouldn't pay out for filters.
I now fill an empty 1lt bottle with water from the filter & keep it in the [new & bit larger] fridge......oh how I wish I had a TV fridge & freezer, where they only have to open the door to take out a huge jug of orange juice or side of beef  No ferreting bak-zyde-up with a torch shoved in yer gob for them:rotfl:Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

If you have a gas fire or a gas central heating boiler with a pilot light make sure you turn it off during the summer, I have calculated it now costs £50 a year to keep the pilot light on in my gas boiler.0

Hi Margaret54
have you tried the charity shops for knitting patterns. The ones near me always have them and knitting needles and wool. Or look in old magazines in charity shops or waiting rooms. I'm sure if you asked nicely the receptionist e.g. at doctors or dentists would allow you to take the pattern out of the magazine. It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!0 -
The offspring are very good to me & have learned NOT to question my wacky wish-list when it comes to sorting out a prezzie for their old mum:p
I have one of the older style Britax jug filters that uses the round cartridge, so I try to buy them when I see them on offer--sorry if that's not a lot of help FriendBut Robert Dyas are pretty good on having long-time offers on these sorts of things.
The last lot I got 4 in a box for £10 in MrT......& I know they are only supposed to last a month, but I do use them for longer cuz it's only me & the pets who have filtered water. Guess if you emptied the jug a couple of times a day, you would have to change the filter as recommended.
And someone on a thread--may even be this one--said they had a green mold around their cartridge, so I also advise keeping the jug somewhere cool & a bit dark if, like mine, you don't have room in the fridge.Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

I'd also wondered about the active life of a filter, since as you point out, a family of six would filter more water in a month than a couple would.
However, someone told me recently that the reason the filters are only to be used for about 4 weeks is, beyond this bacteria and mold MAY start to develop to the point they MAY become a potential problem.
He'd read this in the manual for his filtration system (not Britta).
Of course this could just be a case of the manufacturer spreading FUD, as it's in the manufacturers interest for you to buy more filters?
If you keep the jug in the fridge (or cool & dark) and have had no problems then you may well be OK, but it might be worth researching a bit more if you are worried.

Also, I like the idea of using a car's boot as a BOGOF hiding place. So long as the items are reasonably light then it would make little difference to the fuel efficiency, though I would be wary of regularly driving around with 24 tins of beans, bottles of cola etc. stored in the boot.0 -
Hiyas!
Dunno if it's been mentioned already, but when I've used drier sheets they go into blanket box, suitcases, drawers, etc. to keep things smelling fresher longer. This reallly helps mitigate the horrible "travel" smell my clothes seem to pick up from airplanes/airports!Still waiting for Dyson to bring out a ride-on hoover...Memberships:

sandwiches, Burgers, fizzy drinks, sweets, potato crisps and takeaways are more expensive and do not nourish your body like the less cheaper fruits and vegetables. Instead of buying a expensive sandwich from a shop, taking a pack lunch will save you a lot of money.0
