Aldi 19" SXGA TFT Monitor With DVI - £199.99 (next Thursday 20th Oct)

From the look of the picture the Aldi monitor will be Gericom, I bought one earlier this year as replacement for a 15" tft, can only say it's superb when connected to DVI output on graphics card, and remember if you try it and don't like it Aldi will take it back as long as you've kept your receipt and original packaging.0

I wouldn't stick to closely to the manufacturer's spec's. They're often exaggerated or misleading in some way.
The only way you can tell the quality of the unit is by seeing it for yourself (next to other screens for comparison) or by reading reputable reviews.
Personally, I wouldn't go for such a monitor. If you read around there are plenty of recommended equivalents for not much more, and considering the monitor is one of the parts you interact with most, it's usually worth the extra expenditure."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Hmm. That's interesting. I agree I wouldn't buy a screen without seeing it 'in the flesh', but I would have thought that the manufacturer's specification would be a good starting point on which to make a short-list.
I understood that allowable tolerances for a TFT screen response rating was +/-2ms - so there may indeed be no actual difference between a 16ms and 20ms rated screen! I would have thought, however, that given a 8ms rated screen and a 16ms screen the 8ms screen will actually be more responsive! Is that naive
? As for the brightness rating - I have to say I can tell the difference between 250cd/m2 and 300cd/m2 (much in the same way I can see the difference between a 75W and 100W lightbulb!). As for contrast ratios, I have to admit I'd have a hard time differentiating 500 colour tones let alone 800!!!
BTW, I've no intention to purchase any of these screens
- just browsing to see what's on offer!!!

Try the Aria.co.uk (Think its a Digimate) one at £164.99 its the cheapest and has an excellent response time, measured by testing it for gaming not going by manufacturer's spec, there's no ghosting, its sharp and good quality it displays dvd's well too.Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

Bought this Aldi monitor today for our graphics studio, it is a medion flat pro, not the inferior gericom. Calibrated it with our colorimeter, and it was so good I bought another one! Very good contrast, viewing angle is ok at 150/160, not as good as a pro-spec, but then nowhere near as pricey!0

Of all the companies mentioned which has the best policy on dead pixels?0

Bought this monitor today and can say its really worth the money, slick design good looks and it does what it says on the box. Also, has a 3 year warranty!!!
I'm informed that Aldi may also be soon knocking out some Medion PC's. I'm thinking of upgrading........'Crime can't crack itself'0 -
