AOL now £6.99 per month for existing customers

Options
Having read a previous thread, I thought it was about time to see what I could get from AOL. So just got off the phone to the Irish cancellations section, were I told them I wanted my MAC code as the speed I was getting was poor (1mb/s on AOL Silver) and was thinking of changing provider (wasn't really)
They immediately carried out a line test and found I could get 3mb/s (I had already checked this here BT Checker) and said they could instigate this upgrade for me. They also said they would drop my monthly contract to £6.99/month from the current £9.99

I had to agree to a new 12 month contract, as was out of contract, but still on unlimited download (subject to fair useage). Also got offered another wireless router (ebay here I come) and the AOL Talk Unlimited (which is now free calls to all 01, 02, 03 numbers, no contract, no fee, 1280 BT overide for keeping Caller ID and 1571 is also no charge).

So I think it's time again for all those happy to stay with AOL to start calling and threatening to go elsewhere.

I rang 0844 499 5555 and I think it was option 3 for cancellations, which then takes you through to Ireland call centre

Thanks Info Addict. I'm really fed up with AOL at the moment, but might give it a go, if I can get the monthly payment reduced I might just stay with them

  • Got the £6.99 deal with AOL Talk package. £12.99 if you don't take out the Talk option.

Dead chuffed as I was paying £24.99 before!! Should have sorted this out ages ago.

Just need to tell Sky I don't want to switch after all. Anyone got any advise about this? I signed up for Sky Broadband and Telephone only a couple of weeks ago and was in the process of getting my mac code. Is there a cooling off period?

You need to get in touch with them asap if that's the case - if these are your T&Cs you have 8 days from either date of receipt of router/installation or activation date, whichever is later.

I called Aol 2 weeks ago as my Son had told me to change to TalkTalk. I called them first and they were very keen to take all my details but I refused until I had dealt with AOL. In the end I agreed that they could call me back later in the day.
Like you I called and used the cancellation option. Currently I had been paying £14.99 for the Broadband and £5.99 for calls although I had 6 months free calls.
I was immediately offered the £6.99 package with free phone calls for as long as I wished. The Broadband package was for a 12 month contract.

I was amazed that I am now paying £6.99 + £10.50 for my line rental with BT Total price £17,49. Talk Talk package was £20.98.
    Still saving another £3 +

They told me that I had been with them since 2004 and phone since 2007 January. They said they wanted to keep my business and I was happy to stay with them,
I did receive a call from Talk Talk and I just told her that I was going to stay with AOL.

I think if you sign a new contract with another provider you need to be careful that they don't push it through. It was for this reason that I declined to give my details to TT> She wanted just to keep my details but once again I was not going to do this.

AOL and Talk Talk competing even though they are the same company!

Didn't know that! I knew that the phone calls went through Talk Talk. They have their own line rental and AOL still using BT.
