Hotel Undercharge/Pre-Authorise? Help!
Haze

Hi all,
Great site by the way, as you can tell I am new here, first post!
I need some advice and thoughts. I recently stopped in a hotel and upon check out settled the bill I was presented with and left.
Later that day the telephone rang and it was the hotel stating they had undercharged me by £100 and would I authorise the payment on my card. I declined and she asked if would post a cheque, I declined, she then hung up clearly very angry.
I was wondering where I stand, do I have to pay the extra even if the fault is on thier part. Also can they deduct the amount from the money they pre-reserved on my credit card?
Thanks in advance and any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Haze.

I agree in this case they will charge your card and rightly so.
If you think this is wrong then sue them for the money back.0 -

That's a bit harsh especially since this was the OPs first post. People like you disgust me  .Why so angry?????
Haze, please ignore oooohh's bad attitude and welcome to the site!- had you agreed a price or got a quote online etc beforehand? I think if you had and then the hotel tried to charge you more then I would be a bit annoyed too!It all works out good in the end.If it's not good, it's not the end!0 -
Thanks for your comments both positive and negative!
I was not aware of the exact final figure and I did give the lady the chance to double check the amount when checking out. From experience I always give people the chance to check if I think the figures don't add up, she did check and came back satisfied?
So with this in mind, what is not to say they could come back in a weeks time too say they need another £100?

This is so simple. Did you incur the charges now being billed? If so, then pay them.
Do people even need to ask such obvious questions?Gone ... or have I?0 -
You know whether or not they made a mistake.
Act in accordance with that knowledge.
If you owe the money, pay it (or expect to be chased for the debt). If you don't owe it don't pay it.0 -
Thanks for the mixed responses!
It seem perfectly acceptable to others for people to pay for goods and then get subsquent charges and simply pay them. Too me I find quite amazing, it's like paying for a meal then getting a call at home for, let's say another £20. Would you pay that?

Did you notice when settling the bill that it was lower than you had expected?0

If I knew that I owed the money, then yes, of course I would pay it!
At first I thought that Oooooooohhhh's response was quite harsh, but now it is clear that he is spot on. You are spineless.
MSE is about moneysaving, not trying to get out of money that you legitimately owe.Gone ... or have I?0 -
A quick example for the OP:
Hotel room at 100 pounds per night
4 night stay = 400 pound cost
Plus 2 dinners and bar drinks = 90 pounds.
At check out the dinner and drinks haven't been added to the bill, so I'm asked for 400 pounds.
I know this is wrong, but I keep quiet.
So when the hotel calls to request an additional 90 pounds, I know I owe it to them.
OP, I presume they haven't changed their rates and are trying to charge you more for the sake of it. If they are charging you for something you had, PAY FOR IT!0 -
What about this scenario then?
Hotel room £100 per night x 4 nights
Hotel charges OP £75 per night 'special rate' by mistake
Hotel rings OP a week later asking for extra £100.
IMO it's unfair of the hotel to ask for the extra £100 but what we don't know are the exact circumstances. OP can you be more exact on what the hotel missed off the bill?It all works out good in the end.If it's not good, it's not the end!0
