Hi Premier, Is this new then because it was only a month or so ago (maybe a little longer) that we called BG to check this out because the installer affixed a notice to say that it needed connection by a Corgi fitter!
    Confused now haha

Ours was a funny case actually because the gas safety was performed 'prior' to them removing the meter. (we didn't realise as we were waiting for other works to be performed by a decorator)
The installation was then done and we had to call the corgi fitter out again to connect it!!!

Well an update. BG went out and to connect the meter and THERE IS NO GAS SUPPLY TO THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!! ARRGGGHHHHHH!!!! No-one knows how long it will take to get the gas supply reconnected, and so my move (which was supposed to go ahead tomorrow is now off). As I have not signed a tenancy agreement with this agent, I am free to look at other houses, right?

If you've not signed anything you can walk away.

I don't understand how there is no gas supply. Was there ever? I thought BG had removed a previous meter. If there are radiators and a boiler, what was ever serving them.

On a technicality, if there is no gas supply, I doubt you need a safety certificate!

Blimey, that LL couldn't care less about the place could he?? and what on earth is the LA actually doing for his money?? What a pair of idiots..

United Utilities would be the guys to get hold of. Was there ever gas in the house? (sorry, haven't read all the thread) If there was, then the gas would only be capped off just outside the house and it wouldn't take that long to get it reconnected, but the bottom line is, you shouldn't be arranging anything, it's up to the LL and LA to get up off there !!!!!$ and get th place fit to let before they even show people around.

If I were you, I'd leave this shower of amateurs to it and go find a better property with a LL who is at least awake.

Good(ish) news. I went to see another property in the same town, with a different letting agent, £25 a month cheaper, but about TWICE as big. No garden, but what they hey, I hate gardening with a passion, new fitted bathroom, new fitted kitchen, they say that they can push the paper work through so I can be in by friday (thank the lord as that is when the lease here runs out). So the other agents can whistle. I don't know how there is no gas in the other house, and to be blunt I don't care either. This original agent has messed me round so bad, I am happy to be going elsewhere.

Ok, I paid £176.25 on the 5th June 2008 to the first letting agent, on the receipt they have written (non-fundable), I presume they mean non-refundable. However they were the ones who wanted this to all go through on the 11th July 2008, they told me to put in my notice with my current landlord to get the house move done as quickly as possible and they are the ones who have cancelled the move 3 times now, and still have no settled date for the move. Can I ask them for this amount back, and if they refuse do I have a case with Trading Standards to step in and help me?

I doubt trading standards would be interested, but you could try kicking off in their offices when there are a few people around. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the oil...

..good luck in the new place :)
