As has already been said.
Surely as the gb removed the meter, it was done properly.
As you have no gas supply to the property you do not need a gas cert as anything within, even if it is piped up, has no supply.I am a LandLord,(under review) so there!:p0 -
Ok, British Gas are within their rights to enter any property and remove a meter if there is a large amount outstanding on the gas bill. Jeremy Vine did a piece on it not so long ago.
I am aware that there is no gas supply, BUT I NEED a gas supply or I have no hot water and no central heating (and I have 3 kids under 10), therefore I NEED the landlord to get British Gas back in and get the meter put back in.LBM £18463.32 in debt 10th June 2008,£12470.99 in debt 10th June 2009.:jTime flies like an arrow.

Why not phone british gas and ask them if an appointment has been arranged for this - they should tell you as you are the tenant and responsible for the bill from friday0

ah ok, thanks.0 -
Sorry I should have explained it better but I am in panic at the moment. What can happen if someone doesn't pay their bills is that British Gas can apply for a warrant from the court to enter the house with a locksmith, and remove the gas meter. And that is what they have done, its not "breaking in" as such, but it is (if you know what I mean).LBM £18463.32 in debt 10th June 2008,£12470.99 in debt 10th June 2009.:jTime flies like an arrow.

NUF!!!!ter, I understand that the situation is stressfull but you need to try and calm down a little if you can.
First things first...
Do you have a tenancy agreement all signed by you and the landlord which contains the move in date?0 -
I had a suspicion you you meant that in the OP, but wasn't sure.NUF!!!!ter wrote: »...British Gas broke in and took the meter out.
So what you mean is that British Gas applied for and was granted from the magistrates court an entry warrant
So perhaps the landlord has everything in control and/or even already has had the meter installed and the CP12. You should get your copy when you move in. If there is no gas supply and/or no CP12 do not move in.NUF!!!!ter wrote:...I cannot move into the property without the CP12, and I still haven't heard from the landlord (through an estate agency) about whether it is going to be sorted...
Let the LA know of your concerns and their necessity to to ensure they have everything in hand for the commencement of your TA.
Edit:
Anyone else thinking this LL doesn't really care about the property? If the previous tenants moved out and the LL put the gas account into his name, BG would probably not have even attempted to take the meter and if they did the LL could have attended court to request the application was denied.
I've a feeling the LL doesn't want to put the account in his name for some reason, especially now, perhaps because BG wants to charge the person who asks for the meter to be installed for the re-installation cost and/or a substantial deposit. BG won't install a meter unless/until someone agrees to take responsibility for the supply."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hi I work for a energy company and when a meter has been removed on a warrant for non payment the new tenant has to provide proof of the new tenancy to us and then we arrange reconnection. So it may well be worth you calling BG and explaining to them as either way they will require proof that you have just started a tenancy in that property.
Hope that makes sense.Wins This Year - 2/1 Dog coat.

Hi I spoke to BG today. The reconnections department is nice and local (if you live in Bangalore). My landlord faxed all the relevent paperwork (he lives in Ireland btw) yesterday but they cannot phone him to sort out the reconnection for 48 hours (so tomorrow at the earliest), as it needs to go to the clerical department (apparantly). So I have had to put back the move until Saturday (am hoping that the van hire company will still have the van free on Saturday-I know they will let me postpone hiring it without losing my deposit).LBM £18463.32 in debt 10th June 2008,£12470.99 in debt 10th June 2009.:jTime flies like an arrow.

It might sound like a stupid question, but do you NEED hot water/heating in the short-term?
e.g. if there is an electric shower then use that - when I was growing up we had one bath a week and that was normal for people; use a kettle to boil water for washing up; take washing down the launderette.
You won't need heating - it's the summer. Put on a jumper. I've not used an ounce of heating since about March.
This is instead of having nowhere to live.0
