I've got an old Dyson. It's an upright. I bought it second hand for £60 7 years ago. I've heard the newer ones are not as good. I have a DC01.

I did have to replace the hose after 6 years of use (it unravelled), but that was easy as spares are readily available. I've had no other problems except when I tried vacuuming up huge volumes of plaster dust and I had to swap the filters several times to stop it overheating. I use washable filters, so that's no big deal. It cuts out for a few minutes if it overheats.

I think I'll keep this thing until I can no longer get spares and it breaks. It's beginning to look a bit scratched though.

If you want a cylinder vacuum cleaner, I've not used better than Henry. He uses a bag, but he's indestructable!

I can recommend the Miele Cat & Dog too. We bought it as it was a Which? Best Buy even though we don't have any pets. It's been fantastic and we've had it about 8 years now.

Just bought a Henry myself........main reason was being a remember them being good when I was in a student house......impressed me so much that 10years later Ive gone back to the Henry.

Before buying I noticed that a number of shops or commercial residences also use Henrys so must be good

Ive tried a bagless vacumn which was rubbish and the folks have an upright Dyson (which they have had for years and its still going) however I personally would never get a dyson.....they have had to replace pipes and belts etc over the years but its still going ....I give it that

Henry every time for me, I have one which is 20 years old and still going, it's coped with several building projects, cats, dogs and children.

We have a newer version now and use the old one for the cars etc. We have a variery of floors, mainly hard but some carpets. The wire is really long, it never loses suction, the bags are cheap and it's very robust.

I did have a Dyson once, would NEVER have another, it was appalling. Besides, I could never bring myself to line Sir James' pockets.;)

We used to have a Dyson, then we switched to a Miele Cat & Dog TT - it's miles better!! It also tops the Which? tables every time!

  • Everyone raves about their Henrys What am I doing wrong with mine? Had him just over a year and seems to loose suction almost as soon I use a new bag for a second time. He now emits a lovely doggy smell as the filter needs replacing, but the charcoal filter is £40+. Tempted to buy a new vac for that price. We have two dogs one which sheds a LOT! and four of us humans have long hair which is always getting tangled round the turbo brush. ( I think that needs replacing too)
On the plus side the bags are really cheap, but seem to be replacing them often.
I think the ideal vacuum cleaner will forever elude me.

  • Without a shadow of any doubt,SEBO. German build quality,5 year L+P guarantee as standard. Any of the X1.1, X4 Extra or X4 Pet. When a manufacturer hasn't changed their model for 7 years it speaks volumes. "If it's not broke don't change it".
