I like Wales. I have a Welsh surname, Welsh grandfather, my Dad and son both have the (same) Welsh middle name....
But I wouldn't want to live there, really....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I live there.... but only because everybody has to live somewhere.
I picked it randomly.
Thinking this was probably not a great move.
But, really, where is better?
Diverse well-paid jobs potential, cheap and plentiful houses, coast close by, transport links all over the place, west side of the UK (although south coast is equally OK in my books).0 -

Am I going off thread here? Sorry. Back to Millionaire Mansion....
What a disgusting mind you have! Must admit I had missed that connotation when I posted! :rotfl:"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

Blimey! You must live in a different part of Wales to me! Yes the coast is close by, and we are well west of the UK (any further and we get to be in Ireland) but "diverse well-paid jobs potential" I think not! Cheap and plentiful houses - not on the wages around here methinks and plllllllleeeeeaaase do not get me started on the god-awful roads around here, or the fact that they spent millions "improving" the road from Carmarthen out towards the coast without making the road any better, straighter or less of a drag than it was before they "improved" it! Actually, it now has even more speed limits so the journey takes even longer!"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

Having had the stupidity to hook up with a Welshman, I have had to put up with that in my own sitting room when having provided the Christmas nosh and the wine they were quaffing I was left to twiddle my thumbs and play with my kids whilst my adopted "family" all cut me from the conversations!
In their defence though: they didn't do it because you were there, they really do speak Welsh as a first language! Have, however, been to many Countries in the World and never been anywhere where people you were actually with would allow you to be so completely cut from what is going on as they do around here whilst they had in in their hands to include you.
Have tried more than once to learn the language - what you learn in class never seems to be much like what is spoken - and there is this resistance to helping the learner by speaking slowly so I have given up. My sons have been bought up to use Welsh unless there is a non-Welsh speaker present - and then they should have the good manners to include that person! Hopefully this will catch on - but I don't hold out a great deal of hope!"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

I have that with Hebrew. And now I also have it with OH and our son (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Trapped down in the 4rse end of Cornwall, I headed for Cardiff as it seemed to have all the things I'd not had for the last 10 years or so.moggylover wrote: »Blimey! If I'd wanted an outfit for a wedding and a present, to be bought on the same day guaranteed, I'd have had to go to Bristol from down there. So for what I'm used to having access to it's a big step forward.
Even a seemingly simple A Level Maths evening class ... is not available anywhere in Cornwall. Really. I tried/looked/phoned. Even contacted some organisation called Stepping Stone (who allegedly know where all courses go on).
I love these 24 hour shops I get here too. No longer is it a 35 mile round trip for a pack of cigs after 11pm.... although now it's an inbuilt survival thing so I never run out.0 -

If it is so awful why don't you leave? Don't let the door hit you in the @rse when you're leaving;)In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
I've also found the people in Cardiff to be THE most friendly I've ever known anywhere. When you go into/around shops and town etc. Everybody's so friendly/chatty and wants to help.0
