Hello all, i need a bit of advice quite quickly a relative has just been to Argos and purchased a £150 MOBILE PHONE it wasnt checked before he left the store just handed to him over the collection point counter 2 mins after leaving the store and few minutes down the road he opened the packaging and found the mobile phone and battery missing (the charger and all literature was still intact and present) now he rushed straight back to the store and spoke to the manager who stated that it would have to be investigated and the instore cctv etc would have to be checked and that he has to go back tomorrow to see how the investigation has developed the manager has also taken the box and left him with a recepit and told him he may not get his money back tomorow and one member of the store staff has told him the manager doesnt have to help him at all cause once he has left the store it is his(my relatives)problembut he is investigating as a favour.
Also my relative said to the manager the police should be called then the manager told him if he calls the police and starts making accusations about his staff then he would have security remove him from the store.
any help would be appreciated

Hello all, i need a bit of advice quite quickly.
A relative has just been to Argos and purchased a £150 MOBILE PHONE - it wasnt checked before he left the store, just handed to him over the collection point counter.
2 mins after leaving the store and few minutes down the road he opened the packaging and found the mobile phone and battery missing (the charger and all literature was still intact and present).
He rushed straight back to the store and spoke to the manager who stated that it would have to be investigated and the instore cctv etc would have to be checked and that he has to go back tomorrow to see how the investigation has developed. The manager has also taken the box and left him with a recepit and told him he may not get his money back tomorow. One member of the store staff has told him the manager doesnt have to help him at all because once he has left the store it is his (my relatives) problem but he is investigating as a favour.
Also my relative said to the manager 'the police should be called' but then the manager told him if he calls the police and starts making accusations about his staff then he would have security remove him from the store.

Did the staff member that handed the phone out not check it was there in front of your relative and sign the receipt to confirm this? I know that's what they do in the Argos where I live.0

No Ziggy, the box was just handed to him like any other product and he took it (stupid i know but thats what happened)0

Typical!
Was the box sealed with the security seal etc? They usually have the tamper proof security seals on the side of the boxLa manera segura duplicar su dinero es de doblarlo sobre una vez y ponerlo en su bolsillo. The safe way to double your money is to fold it over once and put it in your pocket.:A0 -
Thanks dylan1273 (and LillyDinero!),
The difficulty here is that no one checked the box whilst you were in the store. Hopefully this will show up on CCTV. I have a feeling (though am not sure) that it is Argos policy to check all boxes in front of the customer, so it should go for him that they didn't.
Could I ask how he paid for the phone/ box? If by credit card, or by Visa debit, it would also be worth contacting them regarding the possibility of a chargeback.
I don't think that the police would be interested, as IMO it is a civil matter, in that Argos are in breach of contract (they have not provided the goods that they agreed to).Gone ... or have I?0 -
i asked him about the packaging he was in such a hurry to open it as he was on his lunchbreak he didnt notice any security seals0

any mobile I've bought in argos has been opened and checked in front of me to confirm the contents and that the IMEI number matches that on the boxEx forum ambassador
