Contaminated manure warning

Our potatoes were affected by this manure but when we dug them up they were fine so we ate them. We have decided to spread what is left of manure over plot during late autumn and not buy any more. Our Parish Council are still looking into this as all our affected plots bought manure from the same farmer. Will keep to using chicken manure until our compost heap breaks down.0

Mail article about aminopyralid:
http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/femail/article-1069379/Plants-gardens-allotments-Britain-dying-The-reason-surprising-disturbing-.html
The Susan in the article is glallotments who has posted here a few times. She said the photographer spent hours taking pictures like it was Vogue or something. I have to admit, the pic of Sue is very good (great lighting!) It's not often I 'do' the Mail (and it's in the FEMAIL section! I mean, really) but at least it's mainstream exposure...
No word from ST man yet, although he's been in contact with all the people I put him in contact with (if that makes sense).0 -
Glad you liked the piccie Silver. At least they chose one where I looked as though I was chewing a wasp  rather than the smiley ones!
More appropriate but less flattering!
I thought putting it in the FEMAIL section was strange too! Apparently though in the actual newspaper it got a whole page spread. Interestingly too - they contacted me rather than the other way round - I think as a result of the bit the weekend before last on GQT. The allotment picture wasn't our site though they cheated with that picture. It is now that we need a bit of publicity again or more gardeners will spread contaminated muck this year and start the whole sorry process again.
By the way DOW are emailing everyone who contacted them asking for information about where they sourced manure/compost from etc.0 -

Its coming back folks
The govt agency 'responsible' is set to reinstate aminopyralid, there is a new epetition on the No 10 Web Site, trouble is I'm not allowed to post the link to it
When I try posting I get an error:
"Sorry as a new user you are not allowed to post with links. This is done to stop spammers clogging up the site. Please edit your message below to continue."
Hmmm, so am I a new user, even though I've been on here since 2007? Maybe because I've only got 7 posts? I've searched the FAQ but no clues.
Anyone please help me post the link to No 10, thanks.

Just letting this thread resurface as its that time of year. I had a thread about this previously where MIL had distorted growth in her sweet pea from farmyard manure and my fathers tomatoes were worse than useless after using a commercial prepacked sack of this.
The growth comes through distorted - as though the plant is deformed. Tomatoes reach the size of a penny piece and sweet pea cannot summon enough effort to flower. In MIL's garden, you could clearly see how the plants were affected as she had only had enough manure to do half a row. There was such a huge difference between each side of the row.
I will be using chicken manure/pellets only this year as I am not aware if this chemical has been banned yet. As an aside, the supplier of the prebagged manure (a premium supplier with a well known name) did ask for a sample and test it. They claim the manure was uncontaminated which was nothing more than I expected as the costs to admit it was their product and have that information in the public domain would have been astronomical and devastating to their sales figures. As a home grower of tomatoes for 20 years, I had never seen this kind of effect on a plant before. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

I'm sure i read somewhere that the goverment once again now allows the sale of this awful chemical provided it is made clear that it is not to be used or by-products used where crops are grown...some help this is as we all know it will find its way into our manure0

Hmmm.....I've been saying for years that at least you know what you have with chemical fertilizers.
What a load of rubbish.
The problem originated BECAUSE OF chemical fertilizers. Please don't encourage people to pollute the planet with the stuff even more, based purely on your ignorance.
Everytone should try to be as organic as possible.0
