I think that recession was the end of huge wage rises and holding the country to ransom.

I don't agree with your sentiments on this but I also think that you're referring to the recession of the late 70s rather than that of the 90s.

Probably, I was there for both. The only one I remember having huge effects on us was when interest rates were sky high and rubbish was piling up in the streets, the dead unburied etc. So what happened in the '90s then? Must have passed me by.

If you can remember it, you weren't there! Oh no, that was the 60s.:D

A while ago on debt free wanna be somebody wrote a story something like life in 2015 when the uk was in a state and homless peoepl were all living in gov run camps as there was no more social houing...
You know I can see that happening.
My dh our 5 children and I have nowhere else to go other than our current home and we dont have a huge amout of money. In a few weeks dh leaves work to become full-time carer for our SEN son and I will be going to uni. We will be living off benefits/savings and student loans for the next few years, without them we will starve. Time to buy a tent!!
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

my first job in a bank ended in 1990 (redundancy with many others, in a regional office), after several hikes in interest rates.

the firm had a national network of branches, and afaik just do sales / customer service, etc by phone now.
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

    Hiya!

Hope you have a good holiday.

    We did - thank you!

Voltarol-You can take this anally (sp) too and this works quite fast as it absorbs quicker.

I don't think I ever want Voltarol again!

Social Services-Please contact them or get someone too on your behalf. CAB would do this for you or your GP could. You are entitled to more help and dont let them tell you otherwise! Go to your MP if you dont get the help/advice you need.

You could try the PALS team at your local hospital and they would contact and advise all people they think could help you directly. This is how I got my initial help and through my GP. I now have Direct Payments and sort my own care. My OT who was sent out to assess me also had a stairlift installed, a walk in shower fitted, pillow lift, wheelchair, new step to get in my house as I couldnt get in and out witout my OH lifting me:eek: and numerous aids. I am very lucky but my GP was always behind me and my husband very supportive. It has taken 2 years to get to this stage but hopefully I am sorted now. If I need more help then I have to contact my SW or OT and they can increase. I will only take what I need though as I am not a greedy person.

If you need any help, please PM me.

    Things will get better.

    PP
    xx

Will do PP and thanks, we haven't heard anything about any benefits yet so I may call on Monday and find out how things stand.

Oh brilliant - I wonder what has changed and will this Doctor decide that I can work when 3 previous Doctors have said I can't (two of them Government ones) - lets hit the vulnerable people again ie those that can't fight back

yep known about these plans more than a year ago, all the charities were duped by labour, they broke the number 1 rule, dont trust governments.

Current claimants will be moved over gradually between 2009 and 2013 and expect delays of course.
