are people on here just as obsessed with the pointless stars and thanks ratings as they are on ebay with feedback then?

I also had a look around some fo the other the forums on here and it looks like every post is thanked multiple times as a matter of course - old school moneysavinga nd competitions in particular - regardless of wht is said in the post. Is that like a shilling circle on ebay? artificially bumping peoples ratings?

It seems you only have to post a "lol" on some boards to get 20 thanks ratings!

Taking this thread off-topic, slightly, but...

Unlike some other sites, the thanks button isn't intended to be a 'rating' system at all. It's just a short-cut button to acknowledge a post without needing to add another post. (Although different forum users may view the thanks system differently!)

On the Competitions board people use the thanks button to record which competitions they've entered (as some disqualify entrants for multiple entries.) 'Thanking' the post acts as a reminder that you've entered that competition.

I'm not sure what you mean by the 'old school' board. Possibly Old Style? I think that board uses the thanks button as an acknowledgement that a post has been read, as much as anything else.

Anyway...back to the topic in hand! ;)

Well, I've got loads of thanks, because I post sometimes on the Old Style Board and there is loads of thanks on there. Doesn't mean I know what I'm talking about when it comes to ebay, and I've never pretended I do. Nor do I pretend that I have a right to tell people how they should post - everyone has a right to their opinion.

My opinion was that a poster saying that they would find the OP was not a good thing to post - and I don't care if anyone disagrees with that opinion.

(btw I had to check if I had a load of thanks - I thought I might, but I don't keep track, nor do I keep track of post count. To much fun reading the threads on here to waste time keeping count :p)

Are the buyers consumers of Ebay as they don't pay for anything from Ebay.
    Yes.
We are consumers of ITV television, even though we don't pay them anything.

Yes - of course it is. You can get loads of thanks by going on the Debt Free Wannabe or Old Style Board if it's important to you. Same as post count - depends where you post and what you post, especially if you post on some of the chat threads.

Most people just look at what is posted and deal with the post, or they may have agreed or disagreed with a poster in the past which may colour their opinion.

I don't think there is a 'they're all out to get me' thread live at the moment, but one surfaces now and again in the Arms - go down and enjoy!

What's it got to do with anything? This part of the Forum isn't pink and fluffy, and the posting can get very robust. That's the way that the people who are regulars on here (unlike me) interact, and that's fine. It's just sometimes it is worth stepping back and being nice to someone, and sometimes it is important to think twice about what you post.

Your join date says that you are a new joiner - have a browse around the forum and see the different styles - but there are some really lovely people on this part of the forum and all over.

What about a rating system where you score posts out of 5?:D

By the way you get a 5/5.
