Tesco reduced food items (multibuy)

From the way I had a reduced item from the chiller cabinet snatched from my hand by a member of staff at ASDA, and told "I'm sorry, that's reserved!!" I'm guessing staff there are allowed to buy marked-down goods ???0

There's nothing wrong with staff buying reduced items for themselves: I do it. Where the issues arise is when staff reserve items.
Personally, I wouldn't stand being told I'm not allowed to buy something reduced because I'm staff at that store. After I've clocked out, I'm a member of public like everyone else, and can buy what I want (and would be willing to argue this).0 -
the issue might be by how much they reduce them?
I used to have a friend several years ago who worked in I think sainsburys, one of the big supermarkets anyway, and he would routinely mark food down to 4p (the lowest he had the authority to, apparently!) and then buy it.. I think he marked them down just before he went off... then went and bougght them?
anyway not sure if this happens any more but this could be a reason why staff arent allowed to buy reduced itemsThey call me Mr Pig!0 -
Chatting to till assistant about this today. She was unaware that the reductions were no longer given as staff are not allowed to buy the reduced goods. She said if they were unsold at the end of the day they were binned.
I work in Tesco and I can buy the reduced items, although I never finish my shift before the tills close so I don't get a chance. But I have never been told that staff can't buy reduced items.
Any item that goes out of date on that day and has been reduced but didn't sell is wasted! I only ever waste about £20 although I know someone who wastest over £200!0 -
I have noticed with Tesco they will reduce an item the day before its "best before" date but Sainsburys will reduce it ON the date it was best used before.
Example .
Best before 20.11.04 will be sold on the 19th by Tesco
Best before 20.11.04 will be sold on the 20th at a reduced price by Sainsburys. :-/0 -

When I am reducing items and notice some that have tomorrow's date on them I enter them into the computer and it tells me to reduce them. If there is only one item then it tells me not to reduce them! However if there is say 10 items then it tells me to reduce them and at what price.
Some items will not be reduced until the display until date. It just depends on the quantity at the time.0
