Tesco reduced food items (multibuy)

Bought two reduced chicken items today. From £2.99 to £2. As the meals were part of the 2 meals for £5 I expected a further £1 discount at the till as usual. Didn't happen. When I queried they said software had been amended so that reduced goods were now excluded from the multibuy offers.

Well, if they've done it the way you describe, that's stupid.
The whole point of reducing stuff is to get it out of the door.
If something's on BOGOF at £2.99 and then reduced to £2, they should do what Sainsbury's do and let you have it BOGOF at £2.
Making you pay £4 for 2 reduced things, instead of £2.99 for 2 non-reduced things, is patently absurd.
Why don't you write to Tesco and complain 'cos I would?0 -
I also got 'caught' by this in Sainsburys,
If I had known it would not work to my advantage I would have purchased items with lots of life left.
I think they have got wise to us and changed their systems!
SorrySmile it confuses people!0 -
Times must be hard for the supermarkets or else they have a smartass who reads this board and has [glow=red,2,300]Idea of the Week [/glow]and wins a mug! >:(

:-[ Sorry! I did point this out to my manager although I think most stores already know about this and its a new system introduced!
i work in Stock Control and I have to be careful with multibuy items, otherwise Tesco would owe the customer money!

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that Tescos had changed the layout of their reciepts so that BOGOF's etc didn't show up in the general list but the discounts were collated at the bottom just before the total. I guess this is when they changed their software.
Sainsburys in Walton on Thames have always manually over-ridden the BOGOF etc deals on reduced items so that you have to pay the reduced price per item. They have only been open here about 2 years & I think they must have trained their staff from day one to watch out for this 'cos they always spot it. The first time I saw this happen I held up the queue & went & exchanged the reduced price goods for full price ones as they were the better deal, the check out operator wasn't amused but the people in the queue behind me agreed it was a stupid policy & if sainsburys wanted to clear out the near-expiry food they needed to price it at better than the 2-4-1 deals or whatever. I just wish the check-out operators were as good at spotting the reduced price stickers in the first place, I often end up at customer services over this & also find them the worst supermarket for mis-charging. Sorry, I seem to have had a bit of a rant abotu Sainsburys.......wasn't my intention but I do only buy their loss leaders & reduced price stuff in the hope of sending them bankrupt! I have a bit of a personal crusade against them! Off to browse fixtureferretts site before making my shopping list........

Any items I reduce, are always cheaper than the orignal offer!
Example
Chicked Fillets Buy two for £4! I reduced them to 50p each! ;D0 -
Wirm
Thats the kind of reduction I like to see ;D, Unfortuantley my sainsburys only reduce each item by 50p in the first instance then another 50p if it's still there for the second price & date check in the evening, or by 50% if it is less than £1 in the first place. Hardly worth a look unless something is on special offer in the first place :-/
Any chance you could transfer to the Walton on Thames branch for me ??? ;DPost Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
