Tesco reduced food items (multibuy)

  • mogoot,
we are not saying they won't honour the BOGOF,
what we are saying is that in the past if the item was reduced, the amount it took off was the full price, they now only take the reduced price from your total. You still have the items, and have paid for one and not for the other.

It used to be a way of getting 'free' food.

I had the same issue with tesco, with the same chicken products. It looks like Tesco have completely stopped the giving of discounts on reduced items.

    So you can have 2 fresh chicken at £3 - £1 = £5
    or 2 rotting chicken at 2 * £2 = £4 - not £3 as before

This is another black mark against Tesco in my book - with my Sainsburys vouchers at 5% off, there's no reason to shop at tesco any more.

I haven't noticed sainsburys have changed: the other day I purchased about 15 cartons of Covent Garden soup for 30p each, and with the 3 for 2 (or some such), I got paid about 40p per item....
  • I got caught on this yesterday as well although I bought three buy two for £X one still got the multibuy discount.

It will take the fun out of buy shortdated produce, as without the multibuy discount, it's not worth buying shortdated items for a mere few pence discount. When I took the matter up with Customer Services their reasoning was that the reduced price was in fact still cheaper than the price of two bought on the multiple purchase deal.

I see the logic for this where the final end of day silly price reductions can reduce the price so that Tesco's are paying you to take the product off the shelf but with the initial price reduction it will be better value to buy long dated multibuys than save just pence on the short dated reduced one. Buy two at £5 save 98p or buy two shortdated at reduced price £2.48 each, save 4p, no big deal.

I feel that when policy has been changed so that multiple purchase deals no longer apply on reduced price items, then it would be reasonable to put a statement to this effect on the reduced price sale stand or by putting a yellow cross on the packet to cover the multibuy add.

  • I work for Tesco.

Our manager informed us a couple of months ago that we are not to reduce anything by more than 15%. I the item then does not sell it gets put straight into the compacter.

The compacter now gets emptied more!

My mother works for Sainsburys who do not have this policy so i now reliey on her for my cheap joints.

I think you may have misunderstood the OP (unless I have!).. for one thing it wasn't a BOGOF.

he/she expected it to be calculated like:

    £2 + £2 - £.98 (total cost £3.02)

ie. the cost of the two reduced items minus the £1 discount you would get if you bought two fullpriced items (2.99+2.99 - .98) as part of the "two for £5" offer.

Yes you are correct. I expected to pay £3 for both but instead paid £4. Not such a bargain so now I don't bother looking at the reduced counter. I only went for multibuy offers as they don't reduce items by much. Only time I have seen real bargains there is at 3pm on Sunday and you can't get near the place. The poor assistant is having goods snatched out of their hand as soon as they mark it down.

Welcome to my world! Last night I had to reduce some bread! All of them were lifted as I reduced them!

Chatting to till assistant about this today. She was unaware that the reductions were no longer given as staff are not allowed to buy the reduced goods. She said if they were unsold at the end of the day they were binned.

She also said staff had been complaining about the fact they couldn't buy reduced goods when customers were sometimes being paid to take the food away.

So there we have it - it's all disgruntled Tesco employees fault LOL

It couldn't be the stupid managers fault who will not even sell the food to staff at the end of the day ROFL

M&S only sell to staff - perhaps we should complain to stop them having this perk ;)
