Things keep on getting better with the Daily Mail.

On Saturday get the first episode of the acclaimed World War II documentary series "THE WORLD AT WAR" narrated by Laurence Olivier.

Then complete the series with 14 further discs being given away free (a token will be in each day's paper for redemption at WH Smith)

The complete set retails for around £70 to £100 in the shops or from online retailers.

World at War DVD collection

Starting on Saturday, you could compile your own definitive 14-volume World at War DVD collection. First broadcast in October 1973, when memories of the Second World War were still clear in people's minds and the war verterans were numerous, the voices of those that fought, worked or watched during the Second World War gave each episode a vivid sense of what it was like to be there and was the hallmark of the series.

This unique TV series, narrated by Academy Award (R) Winner Sir Laurence Olivier and with a memorable score composed by Carl Davis, was able to assemble all of those recollections, together with archive footage into one of the most powerful and successful historical documentaries ever seen.

Over 30 years on, the series is still widely acknowledged to be the definitive history of the Second World War - the very best of its kind - and ESSENTIAL family viewing.

Starting the World War Two story just after Dunkirk, where Britain faces the German onslaught. Although the RAF wins the Battle of Britain, our cities are blitzed and on the continent, the last Allies are conquered. The outlook for Britain is grim.

In the early 1970s BBC producer Jeremy Isaacs, now Sir Jeremy Isaacs, decided to make a television documentary about World War II. He asked his historical advisor to pick the 15 military campaigns that must not be omitted. From the resulting list, and his ideas for episodes focusing on the "human impact" of the war, Isaacs crafted The World at War. Each of the 26 original episodes is 52 minutes long and is intended to tell the story of one aspect of the war. They are all included here, along with a plethora of extra features.
