When do you buy shoes for your kids?

My mum usually got mine in August. By June, they were wrecked. Apart from Year 10/11, where I had one pair of boots last me both years.0

i may be wrong here but i think what the op means is that the kids are wearing winter shoes in the summer and summer shoes in the winter as she buys shoes in aug to wear till dec and vice versa , could you try possibly buying a slightly cheaper shoe and buying every 3 months instead of every 6 months ? that way the cost is spread more evenly and the kids will have seasonal shoes eg spring ,summer,autumn,winter0

But school shoes are the same all year! Not all schools allow sandals.
I have 3 boys and I also buy their shoes end of August and Clarks I find do usually (not always) last the whole year (and two of mine play football).
Eldest is 15 now and I notice his shoes still look okay!0 -
I buy school shoes in the clarks sales, I know the width of my childrens feet and so buy ahead of time. So for example in their pre Christmas sale I buy for school in September, estimating how many sizes they will have gone up by. I regularly go into Clarks and make sure that their feet are ok in the size they are in. I would especially buy half sizes in this way, because if you need to get shoes elsewhere they may not do half sizes. It also saves time on the crazy queues in September. Make sure you know the width of your childrens feet as sometimes the sales only have E or F which are too narrow for my kids and I wouldn't want their feet squashed up.Penny xxx
Old age isn't bad when you consider the alternative.0 -
I usually by my dd shoes around easter time when she starts wearing her summer uniform and boots around october to wear with winter uniform and tights.0

I buy them as my little one needs them, I personally dont go 6 months before being measured again. He needed the next size a month before school finished after having a growth spurt and will get him checked again before going back in September.
Clarks school shoes look the same all year round so not sure re the fashion part, trainers, canvas shoes etc do change a little in style and I do buy more of these as I like a good selection for different outfits.0 -
I have DS age 6 who has about 2 pairs of shoes a year, one in September and another around Easter time mainly due to his feet growing, although the toes look a bit scuffed about the time for each new pair. I buy Clarks. Also have DD age 3 who has gone nearly a year in one pair as her feet haven't grown. Having said that I have just bought a pair of Doodles for summer for her, and she starts school nursery in September so needs proper black school shoes too now.0

my son just started high school and has had the same pair of Clarks shoes for the entire year - i'm gobsmacked :rotfl:
his feet don't grow very fast but he usually wears shoes out quite quickly. i think at high school he is playing on grass rather than playground so they're not getting ruined. he wears trainers when he's not in school, and he's had 7 pairs this year i think. 3 pairs were thrown away, 2 were lost in the PE room and he has 2 pairs for wearing (one stays in his PE bag). his feet are difficult to buy for, but once he reached about 8 or 9 i was able to buy trainers elsewhere, not just from Clarks. his favourite pair at the moment are coq sportif and were £12.99 from m&m but the others were all from tesco and cost £5 i think.
my 2 year old has new shoes every 3 months on average but it depends how many fountains he falls into, or if husband puts them in the tumble dryer after he jumps in puddles :rotfl: he seems to need new shoes every half size and since his first pair of walking shoes 2 years ago exactly he has grown 5 shoe sizes 'bad mothers club' member 13

Yes, that was what I meant. Sorry if I worded it wrongly.
Oh, thank you to everyone for the replies. I am going to give Clarks a try.

Mine have always had two pairs at a time: 'school' shoes and trainers. They wear trainers when not at school. And they keep them until the shoes fall apart, they grow out of them, or they lose one!Signature removed for peace of mind0
