My point was that a spammer is unlikely to get through 1000 posts before getting caught out. Whereas the tiered approach still leaves scope for genuine users to join in.

But how does restricting the PM storage for a newbie help? how does it thwart a spammer??

i have just received a spam mail in my PM box..can i not forward it anywhere to report it ? or do i just delete it? and get on with life in general??
