Well my Littlewoods has 7 days left before it closes. When i was in there i overheard (well stood right next to earwigging!!) a group of men in suits who were talking with the current workers and saying they would like to go look in the stock room etc. Seemed like it was the 'going to be' managers having a nose around. Anyway they said that it wasnt going to be a Primark but a BHS store and one of the ladies said is that for sure as she had heard it was going to be Primark but no he said definately a BHS store for sure. There was an old lady earwigging too and she then asked him to confirm what he had just said and she was delighted at the thought of a BHS store coming to town. I dont think the Littlewoods home shopping is finishing though as i heard that the reason they are closing the stores is so they can concentrate on the home shopping side of things.0

Well my daughter works in the Hastings store. She's so fed up with people asking when they are going to be Primark, she's put up a notice saying "WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE A PRIMARK, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WE WILL BE, PLEASE DON'T ASK!"
Apparently they could be, TKMaxx, Wilkinsons, Florence and Fred, or George! As the supermarkets are trying out "Stand alone" clothes stores. So not all Littlewoods will be Primark, I hope we get Wilkinsons, our nearest is Worthing! Oh for anyone who's interested, Eastbourne IS becoming Primark!I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
Although the Poole Littlewoods is having a sale, there are no signs of it closing, and they had a sign up about Christmas.0

Whatever you think about their clothes, stores like Matalan and Primark are actually very good news for developing nations around the world who are heavily reliant on the textile industry.*
The labour costs for producing a £5 pair of Primark jeans is pretty much the same as for an £80 pair of Diesel jeans. The price difference being made up of marketing, packaging, higher retail costs, design costs and lower volume sales mark-up.
Marketing, retail costs and mark-up and in some cases, design costs are all generated and kept within the UK and these take up far and away the bulk of retail price for designer clothes in the western world.
Of course since people tend to buy cheaper clothes in higher quantities then this has a positive economic effect on many developing countries.*
*Please note I am referring to economic benefit and not including any additional environmental impact.
These 'developing countries', and the people who work for the companies in these countries are the ones who least gain from the production of cheap clothing. While they work long hours for a pittance, uk high street companies, like the ones mentioned, make millions in profits. You belive in the Thatcherist 'trickle down' effect then ?Peter0 -

'Our last ever mid-season sale!' It conjures up visions of the comeback tours.
:rotfl:
I saw this at the weekend as well - the marketing people obvoiusly think it's clever, but I wonder if all shoppers know what it means?
What if we have Xmas gifts from Littlewoods and they need to be returned after the store has closed down?
There was a sign on our local Index outlet after closure - you had to contact a central address / phone for the whole of the country if you had any faulty goods.0
