First adult passport

Hi everyone :)

Asking on behalf of a friend, can anyone enlighten me as to the turn around time for a first adult passport please.

I have read the IPS website and other threads here stating 6 weeks but realistically is it that long

Also i should say they sent their application via the post office check and send.

i've never known one take that long, and have had new passports returned in 1 week. that said, a 6 week turnaround is advised in case of backlog, and before that cannot be guaranteed. they are basically covering their backs, and no one should assume it will be earlier.

i'm sure it will be with your friend sooner rather than later.

Fisrt time full passport applications ( ie not previously having had own child passport) may involve an interview

Everyone who applies for a first adult passport, without previously having held a child's passport, WILL have to attend an interview and that is why it takes up to 6 weeks.

This was introduced last year, but at that time they may have had to attend an interview as not all the interview centres were up and running. However from this year it is all first time adult applicants who have never previously held a child's passport.

I applied for my first ever passport six months ago, certainly never had an interview, and i recieved my passport in less than 2 weeks.
