Further into south London (Southwark, Lewisham, Greenwich) the picture's pretty dire.
Both those schools are in Orpington and Orpington is definitelyin south London. My parents live in Orpington and I lived there for a while.
My father says it's just a snob value thing when people pretend that Orpington is in Kent, as they don't like the idea that they live in south London. I can never work out why they don't buy further out ands then they would be living in Kent.0 -

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but London is not a county and Orpington is in the County of Kent ????.Don't believe everything you think.

Orpington chickens are considered a Kentish breed! does that help? rofl.
This definition of what london is is so variable, and depends on social factors, age, personal knowledge etc as well as anything official. i stood corrected over Kington upon Thames here the other day (but in my hear of hearts I can't think of Kingston as 'London'). Relatives of DH talking about there grandparents living in th countryside near bromley, which makes me giggle, but just the same, I can't think of Bromley as 'London'. IMHO the hugest part of 'greater London' isn't London to 'Londoners' an is london to non Londoners and there fore perhaps should be officially declared a free state.
Wonder what that would do to property prices there?0 -

I'm a Londoner born and bred, over several generations and come from a large family. My great grandparents had 44 children between them and we have a great number of relatives living in Bromley. Probably most of Bromley:D We do think of Bromley as London.
We are also taking over the US, Canada and Oz:D:D:DRENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

No matter how individual a kid may be, the 'Too Cool for School' ethos is well entrenched in many places. Kid has to have that inner something not to run with the pack.
My son still got into a few scrapes as hung out with some gangs ourside of school. In fact, these scrape I wouldn't even post on here ('It's the parents fault' bla bla can't face the judgement) but OH had to collect him from a cell once.
He is 21 and has attended 3 funerals. 1; drugs overdose, another car crash (joyriding stolen car) and suicide. These were all mates from outside his school....from the local area.
DD is in a different situation. The school she attends now is not fanatastic by any means but her only choice of state school is miles away and the results are so dire, I don't trust her not to run with the pack. I have applied 4 times for a decent state school but they are all full.
PS Glad you enjoy my posts!;) If the ££ hadn't gone on education, I would have wasted it on bags and botox...so probably happened for a reason.0 -

Every so often, London moves her boundaries out. Orpington was one of those districts that was transfered from Kent to London nearly half a century ago. I was at school in Orpington when it ceased to be in the county of Kent and became Greater London.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Borough_of_Bromley
"The borough was formed, as were all other London boroughs, on April 1, 1965 by the London Government Act 1963. It comprised the former area of the Municipal Borough of Bromley, the Municipal Borough of Beckenham, Penge Urban District, Orpington Urban District and the Chislehurst part of Chislehurst and Sidcup Urban District, which was transferred from Kent to Greater London."RENTING?
