bloaty - Again I cant speak for your insurance company - please check with the company or prospective company before you buy - each policy will have different things that are or are not counted as pre-existing conditions.
Try, Insure&Go, Tesco, Post Office, Norwich Union and any of the ones that Martin has recommended on this site.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Hi FH Brit
Thank you for your kind reply.
Would you suggest that I ring them and discuss this problem with them before booking then?
Will try the ones you suggest.
Kind regards.

BLOATY - Absolutely, a golden rule call them before you buy - It can be so expensive to find out the hard way.
I dealt with Colubus Direct this morning and their help was fantastic regarding one of our patients who had pre-exist condition, so you may like to try them as well. (columbusdirect.com)

Thank you FH Brit.
You are an asset to this site.
UPDATE.
Just telephoned Columbus direct and the price for Super cover is £114.48 including existing medical conditions. This could be reduced to £80.50 excluding existing medical conditions, which by the way was only an extra £3.76 for my husband but £35 for myself. I had a thyroid tumour 27 years ago, never had any problems since but have to take daily thyroid replacement tablets.
Considering the cost to upgrade my current "free" A & L annual european insurance provided by Fortis was £99 this seems an excellent price.
Haven't tried any of the others previously suggested by FH Brit yet so haven't decided who to go with.We seek a world in which everyone with HIV/AIDS can live an abundant lifeWant to join us?0 -
Hi FH Brit
Do you have any thoughts on AXA please?
Just realised I can upgrade my Smile account to cover me for annual worldwide travel at a cost of £12 pm but that also provides me with free breakdown/recovery cover and loss or damage to mobile phones, including charges for any calls made when lost.
I have also checked our pre existing medical conditions and this is covered at no additonal cost so would work out quite cost effective, as long as AXA are good to insure with!
Thanks again.

Bloaty – See my other postings – AXA are the biggest headache I have ever dealt with. They never pay their bills efficiently or on time which usually means that you the poor insured have to deal with the legal responsibility of paying your bills and attempting to get reimbursed by AXA.
For what it’s worth avoid AXA at all costs. AXA Chicago (assistance service) are good at telling you “we have it in hand” and they do nothing.
AXA also has a clause in many of their new policies that state if you are over the drink driving limit (even if you are not driving at all) then they consider you drunk and any injury is then in their eyes “self-inflicted” and you are not covered.
Ask the lady in Middlesex who I helped who had to pay $19,500.00 because she tripped over a coffee table and hit her head after 2 drinks! ! !
At this moment AXA have over 400 outstanding claims with me (and I’m just a small drop in the ocean of claims they have nationwide in the US) and they still owe us a claim from 1999!C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Hi FH Brit,
I was wondering if you can give me advice of companies to try for our forthcoming trip to Florida. My son is a type 1 diabetic and we need him to be covered for this condition while on holiday. Many thanks for a very informative thread.0 -
we live both in the UK and USA and I must say that we have been unfortunate enough to have to go to the ER and the Walk In centre. For the treatment we needed the cost was about the same and the service was OK although the level of Doctoring left a little to be desired.
We were lucky as our insurance paid out but the above advice is crucial and well worth remembering. We normally buy our insurance via moneysupermarket.com but we check the policy wording carefully.

Excellent thread, really helpful. :T This thread had just about convinced me to go with Aviva when I saw this, Columbus Direct can do me and Mrs Blink Annual Trip Cover for about £40, compared with £105 for Aviva.
Will research the policy further tomorrow. And give them a call about a PEC (Had a car accident a long time ago which caused a few minor issues, no problems day to day but would hate to aggravate anything and they say it isn't covered).
Personally I think this thread should be stickied as I found it hard to find travel insurance advice on this site.0 -

Sure - Martin has some good advice already posted regarding pre-existing conditions.
Try http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-travel-insurance#single - about half way down the page is the good info.
