I've completed my unlocking - I think if you can it's probably less stressful doing it down the market for a fiver - although if you can cope with the stress and are vaguely technically minded, you can save yourself a fiver and do it with the software and cable. ;)

Hi Stumpy, was that using your detailed instructions on the previous page?
  • Got mine today. Used a vodafone sim in it out of the box with no problems.

Yup. Although I'd take the time to read the information on the links I provided - there's a couple of good "FAQ" sections there. I have to say, it's taken me a long time and a few wobbly moments so you're best doing it once you've read up, got it all clear in your head all of the steps, you've got at least an hour spare after you've downloaded and installed all the required software, and you've got your mobile fully charged. It also recommends on one of those sites that, whilst you are "flashing" your phone, you keep the charger plugged in, but it didn't like starting the process of flashing and unlocking with the charger in - I had to plug it in once the phone had been put into flash mode.

Be aware that there is the possibility you can muck up your phone completely - especially if your computer crashes, or something horrible happens, part way through the flashing process. Don't blame me!! ;)

I just decided that, considering the amount I had spent on the phone, I wasn't going to spend another £15 unlocking it via the "correct" route, and I had no idea when I was likely to be able to find the "man in the market". So I just crossed my fingers, hoped for the best, and got ready to chuck it in the bin if things went horribly pear-shaped. :D

For those who were lucky to get a V220 - if yours is faulty then do you get the v547 in return?

My friend was one of you lucky ones - and when he gets a sms - his screen goes blank for a few seconds and then comes back - wierd or what?

As he has only had it a few days - then will o2 ask to repair the mobile or just replace it with another?

  • Although I got a v220, it has to be said that tha O2 have been absolutely brilliant in the way they have dealt with this situation. Firstly by admitting the error with the chargers and manuals and putting it absolutely right, but most of all for substituting the v547 when they ran out of V220s. We have all had the dissappointment of a bargain that doesn't get fullfilled by the retailer, but in this case, I think O2 have done more than any of us could have reasonably expected (I just wish I'd not been so quick off the mark ordering mine to stand a chance of getting a V547!).

    Well done O2!
