Tesco home delivery - not

Apologies if this is not at the right area, I am not always clear where posts should go and half asleep now too :o

I had placed an order with Tesco online to arrive between 8-10pm tonight. It's 10:50 now and no sign of it. I've made three phone calls to Tesco and I am now waiting for them to get back to me as the call centre person cannot get hold of the driver.

I tried looking at the Tesco website and cannot find any info on refund/compensation about this type of situation. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

  • Nice guy from Tesco called me back to say that the driver came but couldn't get into the block (live in a fat). Apparently he tried the intercom and phoning me but no reply, which is a blatant lie as I was in all evening and intercom is working fine.

The guy agreed with me the driver is probably lying as he told his boss his phone would be turned off all evening as he had so many deliveries to do! (what a lot of rubbish)

They re-scheduled the delivery for tomorrow evening 9-11. I asked about compensation, especially as I needed some of the food for guests that are coming tomorrow evening and the call centre guy said there is nothing he can offer,I will have to call the store directly

I am sorry about the long post, I am just tired and upset about the crap service!

Unfortunately you'll just have to get used to it if you use Tesco any more :( I ordered some wine a few months ago and they didn't have any in stock so they just cancelled my order and didn't bother to tell me!! Wasted a whole evening sitting in waiting for a delivery that was never going to arrive. Compensation! I couldn't even get the shop to admit it was their fault - Head Office had to apologise on their behalf.

If you call and email Customer Service at Tesco (and you have to persistent and nice at the same time), they will refund you the delivery charges. A lot of the home shopping depends on your local store, which is a shame because they can differ so much!

I've always done the same when i have had problems and they have never refused to knock off the delivery charge, so worth a go...
  • Just tell them that Asda waive the delivery charge if they're late.

I have had this a few times and got nothing, i have had to ring them on various occassions after a delivery as there are mising items, they refunbd me but say there is nothing more they can do. I have complained to the store and was just told my complaint would be passed on.

What a terrible excuse. Besides...how can the delivery guy telephone you if his phone was switched off all evening. More likely that he decided to have a kip somewhere.

  • if you email the Customer Service team, and ask for it to be passed to your stores Home Delivery Manager. Be persistent, but polite - it took me 4 copies of the email when I had to go and pick up my shopping myself and waited over an hour in the store because it was still being picked and the CS woman was very stroppy! I got a delivery charge refund, 2 bottles of champagne and a £20 refund.

  • Whenever Tesco have been late with us they have knocked off the delivery charge at least and more dependent on how late.

The worst time was when we didn't get our shopping until.... 3am!!!! From what I remember it was that last day of deliveries before Christmas and all the deliveries were a lot bigger than they had expected and were heavy and up lots of stairs etc and they just had far too much to do and had 'given up'. I phoned the store and managed to negotiate our cause and in the end the duty manager brought our shopping in the back of his car... they knocked quite a bit off that time. We understood the circumstances and didn't hold it against Tesco. I'd imagine the people who didn't get their Christmas dinner might have though.
