All the children at the local High School throw away their change when they buy their lunch, the street cleaner comes along afterwards and "cleans" it all up!!
I get into trouble if I pick it up

I have a money box that is specifically for 1p's, 2p's and 5p's (it’s a grown-ups money box in the shape of a giant can of carlsberg!!) I started it about 2 months ago when I left my ex (he used to raid my penny jar
) and I cant believe how heavy it is!!!I had a peek the other week and its nearly half full!!! I keep coppers separate in my purse/bag and then when I get in from work/shopping/pub I tip them all into my moneybox! At first I told myself it was for emergencies (ie loaf of bread day before payday etc!) but I have not had to dip into it once so I will wait til its full and treat myself!!! 0 -
Phew! thank you for your replies. So she is quite normal then

Louise, I was like you when I was young. I didn't have much money at all. Perhaps it's the big difference. Compared to me at her age my DD is loaded!LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

I leave 2s and 1s all over the place - i hate them.
My OH finds little piles of them and declares them as his. I have a jar for them that's now full, but I can't be bothered to count it out.
I have a bottle here on my desk for 2s, 1s and 5s that I empty into the collection envelopes of people I don't like

No wonder we have a national Debt Crisis! a whole generation of children who will throw away the money that others have earned....
No-one likes small change, but for God's sake use your imagination. If you don't want the money, put it in a charity box, they are all over the High Street and believe me, kids in developing countries who will work all day in the hot sun to earn 50p for their families would certainly be able to tell the !!!!less kids of Britain what they could spend it on!!!0 -
OH hates change below 20p, he now proudly presents me with any loose change he has at the end of the week for me to put in the christmas tin - I put all 20p's & under in it when I get back from shopping to go towards the christmas shopping. He acts like he's giving me a pressie each time, lol.You cant take a step forward with both feet on the ground0

It was such a nice, friendly, fun thread... Sigh!
The problems within developing countries are not to do with our children dropping change in the streets. Could we try and keep that particular debate for another thread?LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

Mademoiselle, deary me. Perhaps if you cared so much you should fly out and hand these people money yourself!
Oh and i think the debt crisis might be due to your generation, not the generation of teens we have now!0 -
For anyone that needs incentive to keep a change jar, OH and I have a large glass demijohn which was about half full when we cashed it in last week. Couldn't believe it when we discovered there was £210 in it! Good eh?0

every night i empty my purse of everything under £1
I have 1 jar for coppers
1 for 5's 10's & 20's
and 1 for 50's
I ahve 2 full jars of coppers as i havent cashed them in for about 4 years but the silver me and oh save towards our holiday spends & christmas. as the pig holding the 5's 10's & 20's is quite small I have to bag it up every few weeks and since christmas we have nearly £150 towards holiday spends in a few weeks and I havent counted the 50's yet.
I don't miss it in my purse and its a great way to save up without actually thinking about itThe only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about - Oscar Wilde:beer:
