Hi
I am about to star using the old vinegar system as well but there is so much information and none of it answers a few questions i have to calm my nerves.
I have gathered that i should buy distilled or white vinegar as its the best for most things and doesnt leave a residue
1) Rinse Aid for Dishwasher Vinegar - Is it used non diluted into the same place i normally put it and should i add lemon juice in the mix as well and how much?
2) Window cleaning / Surface disinfecting - Should i use it undiluted, should i add any lemon juice into the spray bottle i intend to wash out a recycle?
3) Fabric Stuff in washing machine - Undluted and how much do i use? I presume i put in it the bit where i put my normal fabric softener juice and do i need to use it if i use Soap Nuts.
4) Its 68p per half litre from my supermarket, how long will that last given the above assuming normal none ocd cleaning? Ill use this to work out how much mathematically ill save and report back.
5) What should i not use it on?
6) Does anyone have a good recipe for home made eco spray air freshener that wont dissipate in seconds but also wont destroy my surfaces.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi
I am new to this forum so please forgive me if this has already been posted. Just had to share this tip. I use a spray bottle filled with Soda water to clean windows, mirrors and tiles. It brings them up really clean, lasts for ages and is really cheap.0 -

My new challenge is to try replacing my conventional cleaning products with old style as they run out... the experiment has begun!
The last of the kitchen spray has run out, I've kept the bottle to refill with a vinegar and bicarb solution - next stop Chinese supermarket for supplies. My worry is, won't bicarb and vinegar fizz all over the place when I mix them? I'm thinking I should dissolve the bicarb in water and add the vinegar slowly, over the sink just in case - should get my sink clean at the very least!
While I've been Googling I found a tip for cleaning silver, so I had a go on a silver photo frame (ran out of silver polish yonks ago, have been using elbow grease). I mixed up a little bicarb and salt with water and rubbed it on the frame using a paper towel, then polished with a clean paper towel. Result: nice and shiny, but the salt is a little scratchy :undecided

For your picture frame, make up your solution and put into the bowl on top of a piece of tinfoil. then pop your frame in, there's no need to scrub then, just let it soak for a good while.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Hi PennyPinchingPrincess,
I've added your thread to the main cleaning thread on Old Style as it helps to keep the tips together.

Unfortunately the frame has a fabric backing, so I decided against the soaking option. But that would be useful for cleaning the family silver, if my family had any!Refusing to Sit Down & Shut Up since 19740 -
Cornflour. For homemade laundry starch, dissolve 1
tablespoon cornflour in 1 pint cold water. Place in a
spray bottle. Shake before using. Clearly label the
contents of the spray bottle.
I have just tried this and I am doing a happy dance!
I love spray starch as it halves my ironing time, but it costs a small fortune, I followed the instructions above, and I also added a couple of drops of essential oil, (lavender) and its brilliant! also I was missing the fresh smell from my old "bold" since I switched to vinegar and own brand powder but this hits the spot!:j
I love this forum!!!
Winky x x xRight now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before0
