The price includes taxes. It doesn't include food or refreshments on board. I understand that there is a variety of eating places on board. Would anybody be able to advise how much I should budget for in respect of buying meals. Some examples of typical prices for b'fast, lunch and dinner would be really helpful. Also does anybody know the price of a pint on board. It looks as though you can buy tobacco, spirits and perfumes at Spanish prices on the ferry which will be handy coming up to Christmas and contribute to defraying the costs of the overall deal.

  • Special thanks for this - such minicruise deals doesn't seem to be evident on the 'usual' links accessible for P & O or from other sites which quote on P & O ferries.

Having tried on-line for a minicruise Hull-Bruges, I found cheapest are days other than Fri or Sat and was quoted £80 for 3 nights @ 2for1 deal.
However, when doing this by e-mail to their Customer Services, was quoted £56! That's in standard cabin -one up from Economy apparently. So have booked that. Brilliant.
Not booking for meals as I agree they're pricey...
Has anyone any recommendations for clean, quiet, central, reasonably cheap (but not dormitory-type) lodgings in Bruges please? It's only for one night between the boat journeys.
    Yippee. :j Thanks again Martin.

P.S. No parking charge at Hull. One of the advantages of living North.

    Hello simonne 15,
    Have you tried Youth Hostels?
    PUT AWAY ANY PRECONCEPTIONS NOW.
'Youth' is a misnomer; they are for everyone and you need not fear 'dormitory' everywhere.
Google will help you. The YHA Life Membership I paid in 5 easy annual dollops aeons ago has paid for itself time without number. Great for families, too(made single parent hol.s possible)I'll quickly look and msg you with anything likely.

Just booked for the last date possible - trip should give a few(very few)hours to peep at the Guggenheim Bilbao.
    BIG THANKYOU, Martin.

Just had a look at the shopping pages on the P&O website. Some great bargains if you are going on one of these cruises, for example on the drinks page 2x1 litre bottles of Martell VS for £30. Cheapest I've seen around and about is a 70cl bottle for about £18.

On the tobacco page 200 B&H for £19.95 and you can bring back 3200. By my reckoning thats a saving in excess of £300.

How will I carry it all off the ship? May take a shopping trolley rather than a case!

I was playing around on the booking page and it came up with £86 for myself and 3 kids, (between 4 and 15) in December. I make that buy one get one free for £43, not £48. Even better! :)

Well done Marigold. Hope you enjoy your trip. Maybe there will be a Father Christmas at this time of year which will make it even better for the kids.

I'm still deciding whether or not to actually go for it. I'm not the world's best traveller on the water, and 3 days of even mild seas would probably be more than I could cope with.
A penny saved is a penny gained
  • yes it's cheap. take your own food on with you it's expensive going when it's cheap that time of the year the crossing will be very rough : mad so take your travel sick pills and good luck if your lucky there is sometimes dolphins or whales to be seen near the boats worth every penny
  • Be aware be very aware......even with the best value travel bargain of the year as this undoubtabily is, the bay of Biscay can be a bl**dy aweful place even on a reasonably calm sea and it will seem endless and you will want to die ( and I am not kidding!!!)-so unless you and your co-travellers are sure they can cope with potentially huge heaving seas for hours and hours on end with only a 4.5 hour respite- forget it and go to Weston-super-Mare!!- the return journey is always worst even with the cheap goodies....apologies for the negitive feedback but done that and will never ever again wear the teashirt
