Thanks guys - I feel consoled! I like the random element of reduced-for-quick-sale goods. They give a feeling of spontaneity and keep me creative in the kitchen. ('Would salami be a good substitute for ham in this recipe?' etc)

DH used a rod, it was a cheap short one he'd bought for fishing off a boat (though he wasn't on a boat yesterday)weaving through the chaos...0 -

hi, my mr T and assorted friends don't seem to be reducing by much either.
although, i got a good deal last week ... bought some reduced by 75% fruit corner things the children like ... the lady put them thru the till, and said 'the barcode isn't working on these, just have them!!!! excellent ...just wished i'd picked up more!;)
quick tip for couscous ... for every 3oz of dry couscous, add 4 fl oz of boiling water (i always use veggie stock).
quick question about nettles ... how do i pick them? what bit do i pick? any type? or are they all the same? some round me seem to have green 'catkin' like things hanging from them!
i'm planning a quick bit of foraging whilst no one is looking and then serving a 'guess the mystery ingredient' meal! (last time it was a cube of chocolate in the bolognese sauce!)
meatballs and sauce with pasta for tea ... not costed, but we made 110 little meatballs from 800g of mince (£2.30 reduced!) with a sauce made out of left over veggies and salad bits cooked with tomatoes (and some rice that was leftover) and all blitzed together! (pasta - bag of mr A value) children will eat about 10 meatballs each, feeding 3 tonight, so with another 25 between OH and me, thats still enough left for another meal!

I could get hold of a tree full of cherries but not sure what to do with them as they are really sour:eek: . Can I just stew them with sugar/sweetener or are they beyond any use?0
