This morning bought a brand new/unused large Cordon Bleu slow cooker for £5.
All I have to do now is find the link to all those recipes.
Tonight had beanburgers made with chickpeas - loverly. Supposed to eat one and save on - ate both
Had it with cabbage, tinned toms and potatoes.0 -
yes, I know -she's a funny little thing (its her pictured in my avatar), she's been known to ask for a tin of mackerel for pud before.
thanks for the info on the lentils - our nearest Asda is about 45 mins away - but it might be worth doing some careful planning and going there to stock up.weaving through the chaos...0 -
BOB - that is AWFUL about Mr Ts throwing that bread out  Could you not write to complain..after all, we are being actively encouraged to reduce the amount of food waste......or so the politicians would have us believe - how can we succeed if the supermarkets do not do the same?Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I went away for less than a week, and I'm still catching up (18 pages!)
Just thought I'd add my dinner and pud for today (didn't cost my brekkie or lunch!).
I had gnocchi (weezl's recipe) and tomato sauce - 23p per portion. It would've been 18p, but I really wanted some cheese
'Pudding' is/was granita. I saw people were asking what to do with the juice/syrup left over from tinned fruit, so I thought I'd mention this (apologies if it has been mentioned before!) - it's really too simple! All I did was freeze it and every-so-often I gave it a fork up. Continue for a few hours until nice and frozen. It's a bit like a (very!) rudimentary sorbet, nice and refreshing after the gnocchi
The only thing I am unsure about is how you would go about costing it - or even if you would count it? If not, wayhey - free pudding0 -
Well, tea seems to have been a success....
Did a Google on poaching eggs, and found a recommended way that meant lining a cup with cling film, breaking the egg into that, then tying the top of the clingfilm to seal the egg in before dropping the complete parcel into the pan of water..... seemed to work, but think I left them in a tad too long for preference (though hubby isn't supposed to have soft eggs due to infection risk, so probably worked for the best!).
I didn't have an egg, but really enjoyed the rest -- though I think I need to reduce the garlic next time!! There are a few bits of pasta in the bin (I assume from hubby), but if that's all he's tipped he's done well for a 'new' meal, especially as spinach isn't a favourite of his. Elder son polished his off. Younger son disappeared into his room with his, muttering away to himself about not being Popeye (so obviously sussed it was spinach) - so only time will tell how well his went.
I have another 7 packs of the spinach in the freezer, so that's another 3 months of having it once a fortnight - after which I'll have to explore tinned/pureed spinach (even I don't like the fresh stuff). And I may try it using passata instead of the spinach, as they eat pasta in tomato based sauces quite happily
So many. many thanks to ISOM for the inspiration on this one
ETA: Younger son has just taken a totally empty bowl down to the kitchen, so looks like the meal went down OK all roundCheryl0 -

I don't think I'd cost it, as I'd have already "paid" for the fruitMany thanks for that tip, as I love a sorbet
Now, does anyone know where I can get tinned lemons so I can use the juice to make a lemon sorbet :rolleyes2Cheryl0 -

Phizzimum - I'm with your daughter on the savoury second course.. can't beat cheese after a meal... although tin of mackerel is a little, er, different! Those lentils Weezl posted up are a great price.. if you can't get them though, I'd check out any local Indian shops or wholefood places, they can sometimes be cheaper than supermarkets. My local health food shop sells things like sunflower seeds cheaper than Tesco.. although I must admit I don't go in too often cos I get tempted by all sorts of interesting things!
Bob - I've never had hare but my parents occasionally get rabbits (and pheasants) from friends who shoot so I'll no doubt acquire a couple of them at some pointDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Be careful when buying in bulk check the price per 100g sometimes lots of smaller bags from supermarket is cheaper i found this with red lentils at my indian grocer although chick peas and split peas were dirt cheap
American sites i visit use price books .............that way they can check instantly if its a good deal
