does anyone eat tesco value mince...and is it ok, or does it lose a lot of weight in fat????
I use the Tesco Value Frozen. It doesn't "look" like mince once cooked, but tastes OK. Nowhere near as keen on the Somerfield version, which is also slightly dearer (£1.10 for 750g, so just under £1.47/kg, instead of £1.40 for 1kg at Mr T) but much closer to home if I need some in a hurry. I found the fresh value used to end up swimming in fat, even though I dry fry it.

My turn to ask for a verdict on an appliance....

My grill gave up the ghost just after Easter, and the repair man still hasn't managed to source a space element for it :( Only other option is to go to the manufacturer, but they want £120+ (rather than £80), and I have to pay when I book the call - so if they then mess me around I'd have to claim back on my plastic (would use a c/card for this as I'm not sure I trust them).

So in the meantime I'm using my combi oven as a fan oven whenever we have sausages, burgers, salmon etc. But I've spotted that Aldi have a mini/oven grill as part of tomorrows offers -- and wondered if it was worth the £18. Is it likely to save me anything on fuel costs compared to what I do now?

umm I got it once and never again...it was IMO "bogging" and for me false economy as it ended up in the bin...even cats wouldnt eat it! Mayve get a small bit and try? Keep us posted!
Mrs M wow on the crafty stuff! I'm on the last leg of my baby mat/quilt and have decided that Fergus will be having sommat else! Hey Mrs M. I have that kettle and I LOVE it, we got it for chrimbo last year and we use it all the time. Its fab!!!!! Did I mention I like it?

I've had a very unweezly day (so not so different) but I have an excuse, new meds to prevent migraines and control panic and anxiety are making me kinda tired, should wear off in a couple of days. Have trawled back through his and usda thread (well, some of) to try and find ideas to increase the fruit and veg yield of our diets and generally improve how we eat. Will be continuing that over the rest of the weekend, hopefully to start implmenting on Monday, wish me luck...

  • Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had thought of making fruit cordials with their surplus fruit and/or foraged blackberries. :p Do you think it would freeze (in plastic bottles of course)? Trying to find something tasty to drink with the water I am taking in an effort to keep off the dreaded fizzy stuff.:o
  • Thanks ISOM and CW. Not sure I can try frozen again, as dont want anymore wasting freezer space, btw it was mr a's own that I used and I couldnt even try it, it smelt so bad, I wont tell you what OH said about it!!! It was 48% pork and 52% beef, absolutely disgusting combination to start with....yuk!!!

Will just stick to expensive mince, well not too bad as a lot of time i get it on offer. 2 for £4 or £4.50 so will just stick to that. Thanks for letting me know about tesco value fresh...will steer clear!!!
    :p I'm a frugal wannabe :p
  • Hi CW18, '
The grill is almost identical to mine except colour. I don't have a full size cooker at all, so use this for cooking /grilling my small items and find it very good. Mine has a useful facility where I can have just heat from below or above or both and i find this helpful too. Although it says you can bake cakes I have not tried that facility yet so couldnt comment. Also my top heat is 200c so for some things it may not be hot enough. I am happy with mine and I think you will find it a handy addition to your kitchen. Cant say for sure about less cost in fuel but just the speed and size must mean it is better than a large grill when youy only use half the space. Hth.

have to say I've been using cheap mince for that many years, that the last time I got some lean mince (on half price offer and then in Whoopsie!) everyone complained it was 'lumpy'. So I guess it's another of those 'what you're used to' items, and my kids have been 'dragged up' on the cheap stuff (and my grand-daughters have never known anything else either).
