Re the pig!! Eagerly wondering if I could get a free head myself... Might pass on the brains and the snout, but sure sounds good for free. I did investigate once, but it wasn't going to be a good deal since I would have to pay for it. Now I have moved, there may be a freebie head nearby!!"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without!!"Nov NSD: ?/30 Nov Make 10 Day ?/300Get Rid Of Debt: ?/2000 !! :mad:0

ISOM, it is £1 per person per day - so £5 a day, or £35 a week, so it *should* be doable.......with a bit of effort.
In fact, forget *should*....it HAS to be doable - there is nothing in the budget for any more!

Just finished reading the USDA thread, and it was amazing!!!!!!!:j
Am I right in thinking that some people use spreadsheets to inventory their cupboards/fridge/freezers? If so could some kind person let me know how to do this, coz it'd be really useful. I never know what in them
Just thought I'd ask again about recipes for roasties and the like for a roast dinner I'm doing on sat...just wondered if people had any ideas I could steal from their dinner tables....Ta in advance. Now MARRIED!11/09/100 -
only click here if you want to see what I've been up to this afternoon! You can then click on the images to enlarge them.
Just working out how to do captions!
well done weezl,I don't think I could cope with preparing one myself but would most likely eat it if it was done for meThere's a lot of cringing going on at the thought of it but like acetate monkey says, think about it it's just another cut of meat at the end of the day and if you eat sausages, pasties, pork pies or brawn,it's highly likely you'll have eaten them before already anyway

With the inventories (especially freezers, which I'm still working on) it means I can see what I have in without opening one/both up, pulling stuff out, putting stuff back -- all of which makes them eat electricity to keep cold. And I also don't have to move from my laptop to see if I have what's needed for a recipe someone posts that I fancy trying
Roasties - not something I'm great at, hence didn't respond before. But many years ago I used to parboil the potatoes (cut into large 'roaties' sizes chumks), and then put them into my deep fat fryer !!!!!!!!! It's the only way I've ever managed a HM roast potato that wasn't raw in the middleDon't use my fryer anymore (though I'm reluctant to part with it) as we've long since moved on to oven chips and rarely have anything that suits roast potatoes, so I now tend to pay out for the frozen ones a couple of times a year

Oh my God, I can't believe I didn't realise I could use the fryer for roasties...so simple, it way out of my mindsphere. Thanks cw18Now MARRIED!11/09/100

you're welcome
make sure they're fairly well cooked before you put them into the fryer though, but no so the outside is getting too soft -- and best drained for a few mins in a caulendar (sp!) or sieve before putting into the fryer, as it'll spit if they're too wet !!!Cheryl0 -
In haste as off to work! Hypno good that its each - you had me worried there! Re spreadsheets make sure that youre not like me & spend hours doing it then realise that you have to update it every time you eat sommat!! Sort of hadnt occured to me and was a bit of a waste of time TBH!
Decided to set a GB of £100 for a month. Realise this is way out of Weezles range but baby steps & all that! Yog hadnt worked so think I may not have put water high enough s will try again! Soap looks ok though!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
I am too lazy to do a spreadsheet, I started to and kept forgetting to keep it up to date, and then planned for meals I didn't have ingreds too?!
I go through freezer once a month, to defrost, worlds oldest fridge freezer is at my place lol, and then put everything I plan on using urgently in the front and it tends to remind me what is in there.
I do a similar sort of the cupboards and fridge, the fridge quite frequently, at least once a week, and the cupboard maybe monthly, and in both I have a spot where I put things that need to be used and then I am reminded to check there and use those things up.
I think whatever works for you is the best way :P"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without!!"Nov NSD: ?/30 Nov Make 10 Day ?/300Get Rid Of Debt: ?/2000 !! :mad:0 -

Just popped in to get soap recipe (left mine at weezls I think doh!!) and PP's yog recipe!
Not my recipe, just one I've [strike]pinched [/strike][strike] knicked [/strike]borrowed from hereThat was a real basic one (you asked for simple instructions
) Once you've got the hang of that take a look at this thread - Easiyo or make your own? I've my sister and her family coming for the weekend, then our cousin and her family are coming for Sunday lunch. I'm making several batches of yogurt. I'm then straining off the whey (I'll put that into my bread) to make some raitha with Welsh goats' cheese and fresh veg from the garden.
Weezl - love the pig pics - not nearly as gruesome as I'd feared :T Once we get our pigs, I may well try using the head
Mary - is the pheasant in your freezer really still in feather and with its innards     I'm glad I'm not the one dealing with that once it's defrosted
