I got to my target of 10 on saturday :D & got another one today, trouble is I still seem to be overspending on my non NSDs :o .

Have had my most spendiest month yet, gone way over on the grocery challenge & cant seem to work out why :( .

Oh well, new month & challenges start on friday & I'm very miffed that my car has to have a new wheel bearing so will have a big fat bill on the first day  . Maybe that will help to keep me not spending for the rest of the month  .

I know what you mean about things conspiring against you sometimes... I started doing this and then had 2 birthdays in the first month alone to buy for.

I have tried to be a bit more open about being a DFW as most people want to help you. So normally being in a good job, I'm quite generous to others - but sometimes to a fault. I've been up-front at work and with some of my family in saying - sorry I'm on a budget, trying to get my finances straight, I can't afford that.

However, :o I did just go to Tesco and succumb to my favourite drinks 2 packs of 4 for £5, 6 lots of bread at 9p reduced from 37p for the freezer, hazelnuts £1.69 and rubber topped 10 pencil set £1 (useful for kids parties or or Christmas baskets), 5 packs of smarties for £1 and then went to pub with a friend and spent £4.70 as well. But the good news is - I didn't do that last week so if I cut down that kind of thing to 1 week in 2 I will still spend significantly less over the year...

I think it is a matter of trying to identify using the demotivator tool on this site what you regularly spend money on eg britvic, chocolate etc and then even if you don't cut it out completely, you can still cut down on it. When I did that I found out we spend £2850 on luxuries eg chocs, drinks etc:eek: - even if I halved that it would give me a significant saving...

    Hiya savingh,

thanks for the pep talk, sounds like you fall prey to tesco bargains just like me . I've been so keen on snapping up bargains on offer - toiletries are a real weakness ! that I've spent far more than I need to. We have 6  spare bottles of shampoo & conditioner in my store cupboard, I just kept buying them every week because they were half price :o. I've also been really snapping up the clothes bargains, cant seem to help myself so think I need to have a stern word with myself. Actually that's the thing I'm struggling with most, I'll quite happily live on bread & water as long as I can buy pretty things for DD & myself & the home & presents for people .....

I do talk rubbish dont I ? Truth is I just seem to be on a spending spree this month, I wonder whether that's related to quitting smoking , if so I need to get over it quick because all the extra money I've spent this month could have paid for the car repairs but now I'm going to have to pay on my cc
    What an idiot

    Good luck angeldiva!
Would you be prepared to set up a link for next month and post it here? If not, I will. Can you put me up for 13 (one more than I have this month)?
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I am trying very hard to not even look at the clothes.... But yes bargains are my weakness. I too have boxes full of cleaning supplies and toiletries that were on offer! Plus of course all my bargain craft stuff. Having said that it has allowed me to make up about 6 presents for no new money (see finished baskets thread) so it's not all lost.

My challenge currently is if say it is 3 for £3 and I'm only saving say 30p by buying them now I don't.... some of the pricing in Asda is bizaare - it will say 2 for £2.50 and you can buy them singly for 90p. I've started really trying to work out the true cost and then weighing up the benefit.

So - one of the threads is saving for Christmas - but with the amount of debt I'm in I think it makes more sense to keep hold of my money to pay off debt with and worry about Christmas later - unless of course I see an absolute bargain. I don't know about you - buy say I intended to spend £15 on someone, and got the £15 thing for £3 - I would usually still spend the difference on them on top! That's the biggest things I need to stop doing!!!!:rotfl:
