Gloss paint that doesn't yellow?

Does anyone know of a white gloss paint that resists yellowing?
There are so many out there that I don't know which is the best.
I know there are water based gloss paints now, but I have heard bad things about them.
Any advice is appreciated

Not sure there is no. Some might be better than others. I always stick to Dulux.
Personally i hate water-based paint and find it difficult to use as it dries so quick and i don't think it gives such a nice finish compared to oil-based when applied in the same number of coats. Having used water-based dulux in the kitchen i since reverted to good old oil-based though "satinwood" rather than "gloss" which IMO looks nicer. I'm not convinced of the resistance to yellowing of water-based paint either. My kitchen radiator has yellowed slightly within the first year despite being water-based.
Only benefit of water-based paints i found was it's easier cleaning up your brushes after..and i suppose less-toxic smelling (though i quite like that myself!!).0 -
what bad things have you heard about water based gloss? i thought water based gloss was the best to use to prevent the white turning a shade of yellow...0

I heard it doesn't leave a nice finish and the only benefit really is less smell from the paintI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

I've used water based gloss for some years and find it really good. I have 2 children 2 cats and a dog and it still stands the wear. I love the fact it dries quickly, doesn't smell horrible and stays white.
ETA - I don't find it difficult to use at all, I use Dulex but I'm sure other brands are okay too.0 -
I use water based gloss too, but I don't find all brands the same. I had to do a lot of shopping around to get one that gave me a good finish, and found Dulux and Crown good, but many of the cheaper store brands gave a poorer finish. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I've got a tin on water based gloss which I used in my old house (not this one!!!) that says it all really!
I was trying to give the place a "fresh look" before we sold it, and could paint when the kids were in bed (the good point), but it doesn't stick to lightly rubbed existing gloss (or oil based undercoat), which caused me no end of problems. It's not as shiney as oil based either. Call of Duty widow :rolleyes:0 -
Crown do a non-yellowing paint. The one I have is Satin though and not gloss0

I'd agree that the water based/quick drying gloss isn't as good a finish. I've tended to use Dulux Professional Liquid Gloss but needed a quick finish on the downstairs cloakroom - my view was that it goes on OK (the Dulux one) but where the liquid gloss fills out to a really glass like smooth finish, the quick drying seems not to fill out as well and you can still see brush strokes in it. Whether it yellows or not is another matter as I only painted it a month ago so I'd not expect any yellowing anyway.
That said the smell of normal gloss and the inconvenience of trying to keep 2 small kids off it for 16 hours while it dries may mean I end up using the quick drying for a while especially as I now have most of a tin to use up! Its not that bad - its just that the liquid one is better.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
Thanks for the replies. I think I will go dulux (non water based)
Does anyone know if you can use rollers to apply gloss instead of brushes?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
