Flippant Police

I've got the engaged tone when calling 999 in the past. It was a couple of years ago there were some empty houses at the bottom of our street which where waiting to be demolished to make way for a new housing estate. The kids were permanently in them, setting fire to them and making as much mess as they could. One evening I saw them break in with a petrol can, so I tried to phone 999 for the police and it was engaged. We have a non emergency number here too so I phoned that and got straight through
They said they would send someone out, but I don't think they did because half an hour later the house was up in flames.

I think that we need to blame the present government for tying our policemen to their desks because each time they arrest someone they have to fill in form after form.
Cycle theft is dreadful and it seems to me that it doesnt matter if you have a good lock or not, it will get pinched. Even Boris Johnson isnt immune to bike theft. I do know of one bicycle that is locked to the railing outside the police station on Clapham Road (Frank Burnie House) the poor thing is totally wheel-less and its a good advertisement to say don't park your bike here.
I have had some recent contact with the police when my neighbour in the basement flat had an extremely loud party (one of several), they came out within half an hour of making the call (they were dealing with an incident elsewhere and came straight away). They told the neighbour that there had been a noise complaint and he turned his music off. They then came to see me and when I opened the door I reeled at the stink of dope (it comes from the basement flat and the tenant has been warned on several occasions by the landlord), when I mentioned the stench of dope the policemen claimed not to be able to smell it:mad: I thought of writing to the Chief Constable to complain but then thought "what's the point? Nothing will happen".
Sometimes I think they do a tough job in difficult circumstances especially with the silly form filling - I wonder what they did in the old days before the Human Rights Act came in along with the endless forms?
Cannabis has been down graded now and someone smoking it at a private party would not be a priority. Blame the government not the police.Grocery Challenge 2018

That's because 999 calls are answered by BT, non emergency [probably] goes directly to the Police. The police can't answer if BT don't put the call through to them! Must say though, I've always had 999 calls answered almost immediately.0 -
I had drunk bloke knocking on my door at 10pm once saying to let him in cos he lived there (err, no!) He would not go away so after 30 mins I rang police (single parent, small kiddie, just moved in, hadn't changed locks yet so scared etc, etc), they said they'd send someone round. Wino staggered off 10 mins later.
Police rang 30 mins later and said sorry they;d not sent anyone, there was an incident on, could I just go outside and check that he'd definately gone!!! And I was so stunned I bl@@dy did!  (this STILL grieves me so might have mentioned it before)
They were round to my neighbours in seconds when some kids banged on his window tho. D'you reckon crime figures will go down because people can't be a*"ed to report incidents?!0 -
obtw another thing i had problems in trying to get into contact with the ds who was suppose to be dealing with my case but he was on a course
i was going to suggest that the course he should defenitley go on is how to speak to victims of crime properly.
anyhows i getting the ipcc involved as a matter of principle. its about time that they deslt with the victims in a professional mannner.
Are you trying to say that a Detective was investigating the theft of your bike?Amo L'Italia0 -
again you really need to read posts properly
first off the police never actually looked at the cctv coverage despite them saying that they would - an independant witness confirmed that.
and im not aportinging the blame at the police only the scum that did the crime but clearly if ds feels that this type of crime is so above himself then surely they can designate to etiher a dc or pc ???
again at the end of the day if they had bothered to contact me and advise me if what was actually which they are obliged to under the criminal justice system procedures, rather than me continually having to phone and leave message etc then i would have been informed.
at the end of the day its the conduct of the police that raises concern irrespective of the crime - take for instance peter woodhams attack - what where all the ds doing then ?
Again the police are getting slated due to one officers actions.
The police work shifts meaning that they sometimes work 4 nights in a row - can't do any enquiries during that period. If it's a late shift then you can sometimes do things during the early part - e.g. before 10pm. If it's earlies then obviously that is the best time for most things.
So if one officer takes a job on the Monday, and then may be off for 4 days after working then they won't get back to you on Friday at the earliest, and that's not taking into account their shift and commitments, e.g. they may be tied up for the entire day/night with something.
It's not right and it's not fair. But I do think the police are unfairly critisized when it's actually the government and the system at fault.Amo L'Italia0 -

A police officer I know always asks "How do you know it's dope?"
There's normally 2 honest answers, you've done, at some stage in the past, exactly what you're complaining about others doing or the second one (I'd guess more frequent) is that you don't really know it's dope and you're a paranoid, likely elderly, person that thinks all smoke that doesn't smell like your Silk Cut is dope.
Still, it's amazing the number of people who would claim never to have been near the stuff yet can pinpoint the location of it and recognise the smell anywhere.Bought, not Brought0 -

no he wasn't
he was given a task to do but failed to do it0 -

And what was his task?
I think there has been some crossed wires somewhere. A Detective Sergeant would never get involved with the theft of a bike. (Unless of course the bike was used by some guy who later murdered someone)Amo L'Italia0
