Hi everyone. Thanks for all the inspiration you give!

I've just spent ages catching up with reading this thread, and I was very interested to read about dehumidifiers; I think one of these could solve the damp problem we've been experiencing.

We're starting to get the usual winter condensation problem on our single-glazed windows, which is a real pain to mop up every morning, and I like the idea of the dehumidifier helping to dry the washing. Does anyone think this could be more frugal than using the tumble dryer when the weather is bad?

I'm trying to cut our expenses to the minimum, and would love to join this challenge, but haven't really come up with a total annual figure to aim towards yet.

I bought a new dehumidifier via eBay and it is brilliant! Mine doesn't have any directional fan or anything but it dries the clothes on the airer overnight plus there has been absolutely no condensation on the windows, even when I'm cooking. It's definitely cheaper for wet weather clothes drying, I'm selling my tumble drier! :D

Hi Mumzy, good luck with college tomorrow :)

It's now pouring with rain here - Princess Anne may get a wee bit drookit! I wonder if I should offer to lend them my portable plastic greenhouse?

Update on the day's free entertainment - we now have a cute little spaniel sniffer dog and 3 not so inconspicuous people in black - I think the all black gear and bovver boots are to make them look like SAS, wonder if there'll be a black helicopter come swooping in soon? Ooh, the excitement if that was to happen! Hmm... mr inconspicuous in black is a bit obvious now - he's walking down the street with a big 'POLICE' sign :rotfl: DS going to be delighted if he can't get across the street finishing work at 4pm, just as HRH 'plants' the rowan tree. Sniffer dog has a really waggy [strike]tail[/strike] stump and seems to be having fun working around the little park. :D

Edited in - ITV news team now arrived, this is mighty impressive for such a small town. Locals not lining the street, wonder if they know?

  • cw18 - :grouphug: Sending you lots of hugs, it's really hard dealing with the implications of a terminal illness. I can totally understand your reasons for not wanting to involve hubby so if you need to have a moan about things you will find lots of support on this thread.
Having just lost my brother to cancer and still dealing with my dad's terminal cancer both of which have left us devastated,I can't imagine how hard it must be to be dealing with money worries as well.
    Take care x

  • Hiya
I have just been reading about all your successes - well done everyone.
My family are trying very hard to be frugal as when my little boy was born 11 months ago I gave up full-time work. I do have my own part-time business but my main priority is being a good mum and so I do not take on too much work. My husband has just secured a brilliant new job which involves a company car which is fab as we will be selling ours and we grew some of our own veges for the first time this year which was cool. I love 'The Good Life' and would love to be self sufficient but it is virtually impossible at the moment. However I'd love to take on a challenge like yours and was wondering if you would be doing another one in 2009?
    Cheers

  • Hi everyone hope you are all well and had a pleasant weekend in the sunshine

Cw - Sending you and your hubby hugs
Mumzy - Good luck with college tomorrow
Marru - hope you got the toothache sorted. The lady who came to see us on Saturday was brilliant. She spent 2 hours with us and showed us lots of different things to try with the boys. We are doing 15 minutes of touch and 15 minutes command work a day as well as face wraps for both dogs and a t shirt for big dog. We could already see a difference when Dh's brother came round and big dog was so much calmer with him which makes little dog calmer. We are going to call her in a week or two and let her know how we are getting on. I can't thank you enough for pointing me in that direction!

Not much else to report really. Haven't spent much this weekend although off food shopping tonight so fingers crossed I will come in under budget again. Got 5 birthdays this month so need to really keep a tight grip on the finances! I have also started to put aside some money for my best friends wedding next August as both Dh and I have stag/hen do's to go on as well as a present and hotel to pay for so want to be prepared xxx
Ps. Got my 20 week scan a week today to check everything is ok with frugalmite and maybe find out the sex! Really looking forward to it.

1st of October will be start of last 3 months of challenge - £1000 to go until Dec 31st:D (plus if you have any kids you can add child benefit) Check out first post to see what is and isn't included and just see how you go from there.
