I'm going for a lie down now before I visit my in-laws.

    Excellent idea! :D:T

I just invented a new dish. My DD got hold of a full box of 12 eggs and of course she dropped it. 6 were broken but I managed to rescue the insides. So I chopped some leftover veggie sausages and chips, put them in lasagne dish with frozen vegetables and poured the seasoned egg mix in there. After it has now been in the owen for 15 mins it looks great. I just grated some cheese on top and leave it in the owen for couple of more minutes. And tada, lunch is ready. Off to eat it now...:p

Question: Does anyone on here have a chest freezer that they keep outside the house? I mean really outside, exposed to the weather, rather than in a garage? I would like another freezer but there's nowhere to put it except in the back yard.
Closest I've come is in a "utility shed" (used to be a coal shed, which I cleaned and painted, and had power socket installed in, for my washer, dryer and chest freezer).

Have to say that I wouldn't like it totally outside -- for one you'd have to figure a way of padlocking it (to stop tea-leaves helping themselves), and I wouldn't want it getting rained on as water and electricity really don't mix

  • Good news, Homebase kitchen came in at around the same price as the nice local kitchen place, so I know where I'm going for that ;)

I have done my first bit of house shopping, and instead of being sensible and buying something small that I can store in my rented room, I bought a fridge freezer from Currys. It did have £200 off, so was a proper bargain. Tomorrows challenge is to persuade the nice guys at work to go to pick it up. Then it'll have to live in storage at work until I'm ready for it. The offer was only on this weekend, so I thought I'd better get it!

I have a huge batch of chutney as bribes for people at work now. Spent an hour chopping green tomatoes this morning. Lucky I didn't put any extra chillies in... just put 2 in (as the recipe said) and it's pretty hot

Edit: re the large house deposit, I've always been a saver! Over 28 years my savings only works out to £1000 per year... Still, I've only actually had a job for two years, rest of the time I was studying! I do miss the permenant student status, but the house makes up for it.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the inspiration you give!

I've just spent ages catching up with reading this thread, and I was very interested to read about dehumidifiers; I think one of these could solve the damp problem we've been experiencing.

We're starting to get the usual winter condensation problem on our single-glazed windows, which is a real pain to mop up every morning, and I like the idea of the dehumidifier helping to dry the washing. Does anyone think this could be more frugal than using the tumble dryer when the weather is bad?

I'm trying to cut our expenses to the minimum, and would love to join this challenge, but haven't really come up with a total annual figure to aim towards yet.

I will look into getting my tooth sorted - fancy recommending a dentist? :D

If you look at NHSdirect go to the bottom of the page, put in your postcode and change the drop down box next to it to dentist it will tell you ones in your area and which ones are accepting nhs patients if you're really lucky.

Have you got the recipe/link for this please?

    TIA from an occasional lurker.

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

    Hello all,

Thanks for that Bobbie. I had a look and it seems that the one in my village is NHS dentist so will give them a call tomorrow.

Didn't quite manage to get through my to do list but very pleased with the progress anyway. Bails - fancy coming to sort out my fridge as a return I will come and list your stuff on eBay. :D

My new piggy boy arrived. He is TINY! No way I can put him together with Big Bum Bully Boy Piggy. He is now hiding in a separate cage settling in. Now there is a dilemma, should I get two more piggies, one as a friend for BBBBP and one for this little one. And rescue said they will send me a picture of girl pair that are gourgeous - I need a bigger place!!! Shame I didn't win in the lotto. Did win tenner in cash back bingo again but that won't buy us a smallholding I am afraid.

Off now to watch telly before retiring for the evening.

    Have a great evening everybody!

If this works you should be able to see a recipe...

    Yay, it worked!

Mine still had a lot of liquid left at the bottom after simmering, so I strained it off, and am going to use it as interesting flavouring for bolognese or something...

    :rotfl: Just the job, thanks.

I've only got 2 slightly blushed toms so far, the rest are still a defiant green so are getting the axe this week... I'm sick of watering them!

  • It made 5 and a bit decent sized jars of chutney, by the way.
