Ooh Nyk, curry and chips - care to share?
I wonder what happened to the saying, 'cheap as chips'? It was oven chips and Mr T's 4p curry sauce. I'm sure I paid about £2 for the big bag of frozen chips, though! That should do us about 3 lots for 3. Hmm... 3 lots of chips & curry for 3 people = £2 + 12p... that's like 23.55p per person for chips & curry sauce. If I throw in some chicken, then they cost £3 each, one chicken costs about 20p to cook and does 3 meals for 3 of us, so that's another 35.55p per person, bringing it to a grand total of 59.1p per person for chicken curry & chips! That's ridiculous!!! I should have stuck to saver variety instead of being extravagant and buying McCains Oven chips! :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

With a bit of food I persuaded her back into the pen. Then decided to pick the last of the tomatoes, felt a tug on my leg and the rabbit was trying to eat my jeans! I screamed and ran away. Now the chicken has escaped from her pen again and she can just stay out. I'm not going out to face the scary clothes-eating rabbit again :rotfl:

The cats, dogs monkeys and rodents there had a good life, albeit occasionally a shorter one than some pets, and were better looked after than many of the pets I ended up rescuing when I helped Cats Protection. One person at the unit spent most of her day playing with the cats, and the unwanted cats from the animal experiments were homed to staff. Not that you should experiment unnecessarily of course, but sometimes there just isn't another option.
Ok, you can all shout at me now
Lynda, I agree with you. I am a scientist and while this is not my area or research at all I personally think animal experiments are unfortunately necessary. What I do know is all animal experiments are VERY tightly controlled and the animal's welfare is firstmost above all other considerations. Regulations and laws are currently such that unfortunately most medications for example MUST be tested on animals as part of their steps to gain approval for use so there is a legal necessity to do animal based work if we want new drugs to treat people (and animals too). There is a legal requirement to use as few as possible in order to do the testing.
As I understand it drug companies (I'm pretty sure P&G although do this too) are actively funding research into alternatives to using animals in an attempt to lower their use further/remove the need to use animals at all while still meeting regulatory approval.Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

I want a scarey clothes eating rabbit! :j :rotfl: :T
Ooh, I could have chickens and one of those giant rabbits if we moved out into the country! And no neighbours lighting smelly bonfires when my washing was hanging out and nobody cursing every second word from across the fence and no boy racers and cheaper rent and a log fire to heat the water and.. hmm... :think:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I was considering not posting as I didn’t want it to turn in to a debate on the rights and wrongs of animal testing, I just wanted some advice on pet food and I knew some of the peeps on this thread could help me and then I had to post the article to explain myself.Live on 4thou a year £2685 from 01May08Total left to spend: £1086.35I have enough money to last me the rest of my life. I like to think that most of the people on this thread, whilst having their own often strong beliefs and opinions are also open minded enough to read the posts of others and respect their beliefs. Whether they agree or not is immaterial but at least we get to see different sides to an argument. I love this thread for that:A0

Hello everybody!!
I am afraid I am one of the "bunny huggers" and today ordered a ridiculously expensive moisturiser as I wanted support the business and I know that there is nothing nasty in the product. What comes to the dog food then I would definitely go for Burns. It is available in well stocked pet shops. My dog has been on Burns last 6ish years and she is now 14. I am testing now another dog food but it is not available nationwide yet. Sukielou think about it that you get quality when you buy Burns - you need to feed it less and there should be less poo to clear up as it should be easier for the animal to absorb (I have a labrador so I can't comment on the quantity of poo )
Bails - you are on re the hen night and good news about the stuff for your FSIL's one's.
I called the bank where DD's CTF is to find out if her dad had put any money in there and NEWSFLASH!! he had put there £50.-!!! That man sits on over £50k savings and that is how much he could "afford" to give to his daughter. Also I found out that the yearly limit has gone up from £1.2k to £1.5k sooo I need to find £1,450.- by the end of October . Actually I found one penny from street today so that £1,449.99 to go. Wish me luck!
NSD for me tody as left my purse home on purpose.
I found today a correspondence course in dog training and behaviour that I really really want to do. After I have put all the available money to DD's CTF I need to find the money (and time ) for that (and for finishing my alternative therapy training that I started - sigh) I think I will buy a lottery ticket on Saturday or failing that try to find a sponsor.
Have a relaxing evening and a good night everybody.

:hello: everyone. Feeling a bit better today, so I went back to work
I was thinking, if I get a reduced chicken from the hot counter on saturday night after work, what could do with it? One portion would go for a sunday dinner (mum is away for the weekend) but I can't think what else to do? I'm sure you lovely people will come up with something! x

Either rissotto (sp?) or basta bake would be easy and yummy. Then there should still be some left for sarnies or as cw18 said with salad.

SF - a lovely curry that you could then freeze in portions.
My frugal education continued today with exploring mysupermarket.com thanks to EagerLearner. It's fab.
I have 1p in my purse. As this should be put into my loose change piggybank, I have less than 1p. (I do have a little cash in the bank) Can I survive until 1st Oct (new pay/monthly budget)with out spending another penny? That would certainly be a challenge.MMMm especially as I may need to spend 2.60 on a bus on the 29th...
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0
