Well, I've been to see the allotment. It's not one of the biggest, and there are no crops in it, but at least I didn't need a machete. Got talking to a nice lady (half buried in long grass!) on a nearby plot who told me the council has had a purge of people who don't bother using their allotments, and that's why more have become available - her friend had just been given the one she was working in, but the friend wasn't able to dig it at the moment so she'd come instead. The only thing I forgot to ask is where the water comes from - it might be the other side of the site, a bit of a pain. If I can water it without breaking my back, though, I'm going to accept. I saw all sorts growing on the other plots - I was thinking, 'That could be MY stuff next year,' and it was so exciting! :j'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. I think the same when I look at the plots surrounding mine, then look at the side that once again has 4ft weeds on it and think...its gonna take me more than a year to tame this thing.:o.
The kind old guy at the allotment to the left of me pruned my apple trees today, and gave me a ton of cucumbers. Great news on the date LS & ditto the allotment redglass -I'm not suprised you are excited.:j
Today I signed myself and OH up for a co-op divi card, as we pick up bits and bobs from our local one. Got them both to pay direct into my savings account.
Thanks Marru. Oh, and I shall watch with awe the £1000 in 100 days gang.
The last 2 days I have cooked all my meals in the remoska, including rice and haven't used the hob or oven at all. A sc day tomorrow though, trying a wheezl lentil recipe.
Can't remember if I have already said that we have picked over 5lbs of blackberries in the last 2 days - very pleased with ourselves and can't belive we haven't done this before. I also found a 7.5ft x 8" plank (someone had dumped a load of rubbish/scrap wood in a local beauty spot:mad: )which I persuaded OH to bring home with us and I'm going to use it as a long shelf on the wall after a sand and varnish(I have quite alot of brackets doing nothing in the attic). I always resist drilling holes in walls incase I want to move things around. But we need better storage and this would be a good step forward in that process.
EDIT PS passed on the message bailsI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -

Good morning girls,
I have just woken up after a late night, was at the John Edward (American Medium) show last night with my dad, aunt and SIL. We went to a fish resturant before hand and it was great. The medium was another story, he was rotten. He spoke about himself for most of the time and done a couple of readings. My dad and aunt were both really disappointed as the watch him on TV all the time. They won't be watching again...........
Going for breakfast now and then will be back to cut my grass round the back, it has been dry here for 2 days, so will take the chance while I have it and then tidy up the front driveway and get rid of the weeds.
I'm hoping for a NSD today, so we'll see how it goes.
Speak later,
SL x0 -
Feeling disappointed with myself this morning. Managed to get to yesterday having kept to the budget but got an invite from a friend to go with her to a club for a friends birthday and because I had someone to watch Woody I said yes. Wish I hadn't! Night was a total disaster and I ended up spending £35 and £4.10 of it I can't even account for
I could have stayed home, polished off my Polish wodka for free and listened to better music :rotfl:
Like SL, I am going for a NSD for sure and I might lock myself in just to ensure it
Glad your date went well LS and the offer on the house if just the icing on it. Hope you get it :j
Redglass, I am so over Abel & Cole, seems like I will be placing my veg order with you in the futureDEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0 -
Soups in the slow cooker and just about to make some bread rolls now my breadmaker is up and working again
Going to try to use cupboard stores this month in my aim to save more towards these debts of mine.Next doors washing is hanging limply on their line so I'm wondering if I should just wait and tumble mine later on tonight.Ironing might be my plan for today as I have so much and keep putting it off (to save on electric is my excuse lol).
I've decided to change DD's play area into a veg garden. With the weather we've had and the neighbouring cats she hasn't used it much this year so I'm going to re site the sand pit and get rid of the swing which has seen better days.I then plan to dig it over and use the compost that is sitting in my 3 bins to prepare for planting in the spring.I've finally decided to grow my own.
It's the inspiration on this thread so thanks everyone.I'm just hanging in there budget wise but I'm already looking at next years figures and plans.I will have savings by 2010 that's for definatelost my way but now I'm back ! roll on 2013

I have just had a run-in with a neighbour. I won't say exactly what it's about in case she reads this, but she and her husband have done something very selfish that means everyone else in the area is disadvantaged. She whinged to me about someone else who had dared to oppose her, and we 'had words' as they say, and all this took place in the road - I feel like a brawling character from Coronation Street! :rotfl: I can't honestly say I'm very upset. But it's made me think about the connection between frugality, community feeling and selfishness. I went back to the lotty today to check a few details and the man in the next plot loaded me up with veg and even some flowers. Not in a flirtatious way (he was half my age and definitely a family bloke) but just to be friendly to a new arrival. Obviously if I can pay him back, I will. Sharing and being considerate has to be the way forward, surely? With another neighbour I exchange favours and we are both better off as a result. End of rant.'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe

redglass, you made me laugh with all your brawling and exchanging favours.
I also like...
the new house, the £1k in 100 days challenge, hearing about dates (met a very nice chap yesterday; not for me, but just wonderful to know that there are very decent men about, even at 35 years old. Unfortunately he is neither a vet nor Irish so I won't be sending him marru's way).
Sophiesmum, hope all goes well tomorrow, and that it is uplifting and comforting rather than heartbreaking xxxx
I had to take DS on a 160 mile round trip today. I decided to drive carefully (left early and it was quiet on the roads so I stuck to 60mph even on the dual carriageway). I am very pleased with myself for using less fuel than I may have done otherwise. So I promptly spent the saving in a cafe! We took our lunch to a beautiful park though and sat in the sunshine, which was great as it meant we couldn't be bothered to go and get pudding.
We've had a lovely day. Love to you all. Anyone seen Janey lately?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
