Happy new thread!
Nyk, I put my figure down to £2700 after excluding work travel costs from my budget... it will be a bit tight though so I might pretend that I never changed it at all :rotfl: but it would be better to be honest
Have been spending a little bit extra over the past couple of days seeing friends before I go travelling on... WEDNESDAY!!! After that point all my spends until Sept 5th will come out of my holiday savings so I can leave this challenge alone for a bit. I'll be spending a bit on a meal out with some more friends today and I need to get a couple more presents for my brother to make up for the fact that I'm missing his birthday. He's already getting HMV vouchers from pigsback (if I can find them... they're around somewhere), fancy toiletries (which he's quite into :rotfl:) and something to appeal to his inner music geek. Am thinking of getting a couple of things for 'uni survival' since he's off in October (assuming he gets the grades which I'm sure he will). I'm thinking of trawling the charity shops for a cool doorstop of some sort so that he can keep his door open to say hi to people going past which I would have liked this year... and maybe a bottle of gin or vodka if it's not too expensive :rotfl: any other suggestions? My parents got me all the 'boring' essentials like washing-up liquid etc and he'll probably want to choose his own plates etc so I'm looking for something a bit more esoteric.
Hope everyone is getting by OK xxxLive on £4000 a Year Challenge member

Just wanted to say Good Morning on our shiny new thread. Doesn't seem too long ago since the last one.
If 2 more people joined the challenge we would have 150 challengees - that would be so cool.
Woken up at the crack of dawn today by DS who is doing a speech at school, and who wanted to practise. It's coming up to the end of term and he's permanently tired and tearful at the moment. So what have I done? Just agreed that he can have a friend over for a sleepover next week....must remember to tell H2B...
It's beautifully sunny this morning; fitting weather for the first day of quarter 3. I'm going to check my online banking...let battle commence!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Andromache, when I was at Uni (a hundred years ago), we made our own noticeboards for the door of our room at the hall of residence. Just got a sheet of A4 card. Decorated round the edges, then laminated it. Got a non-permanent pen, and a blob of blutac to stick by it. Then we could communicate with the rest of the folk on our corridor even if we were all around and about at different times. We had a very friendly corridor.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I went to the cookery class yesturday and couldn't believe how relaxed it all was. we were given the ingredients and recipe and left to our own devises. We made fish pie with white fish, prawns, broc., peas and made a fresh parsley sauce topped with mashed pots and sliced toms to garnish. I managed to squeeze five portions and we were even given the tin foil containers and lids to put them into. All I have to do is pop them into the oven. I don't like prawns but OH does ,so they will do him for lunch or even dinner as the portions are large. Not bad for £2! Next week we're making Mousakka.Living a frugal retirement without treading on the planet :T

Good Morning,
Could I join your wonderful challenge please? I have been reading Parts1 and 2 of this challenge and it is inspirational!!
I haven't been able to join before as I got married in May and spending has been crazy! So now need to pull in the old belt and pay off my debts!
Could I sign up to £2000 + child benefit, can you add child support agency costs to the total as well?
If so then that would be 3311.78 for 2nd half of 2008. If not then £2451.20.
I guess CSA money would not be included as it would vary....

Welcome, InTheRed [may I call you ITR? I know it's a little soon in our friendship, but .... I have RSI:rotfl:]
I have confessed that this yearso far has been a total and utter waste of challenge time - I'm determined that this next 6 months will see a bright and shiny me :A [AND OH :rotfl:]. So, in honour of the fact that I'm turning over new leaves faster than a sycamore in Autumn, can we put up a new figure for this household, please, Nyk? I have still to work out what it should be to be realistic:rolleyes::o, but it'll have to change ...:o
I promise to spend a couple of hours on it this morning and post a SOA later - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh, nope, can't do the SOA thing yet:eek::eek: .... too embarassed at how rubbish I am.:o:o:o I'll amend my figures quietly and hope you don't notice ..If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0 -
