Hi everyone.Had a bit of a morning here.DD went back to school this morning. We shopped for school shoes at clarks just before we went on holiday and she had only tried them on in the house a couple of times before putting them on this morning.I looked at them and thought they looked too small on her feet and a bit tight.Of course she said they were fine and started getting upset at the thought of me taking them back.A friend called round who used to work for clarks and said that in her opinion there was no room for movement or growth and they were a bad fit.DD got hysterical at this but after lots of tears and cuddles she went off to school in last years boots with the promise of going to the shoe shop after school. She was already worried about going into year 2 and I felt I'd really upset her so as you could imagine I've had a guilty morning.i'm feeling a little better now as I'm sure she will just be getting onat school and enjoying seeing her friends again.
I just hope we can get the same style in the correct size when we go back as she loves the shoes. But at £30 a pair I want them to be right!!!
Thanks for listeninglost my way but now I'm back ! roll on 2013

bails- I was in Cornwall, but I've moved accross the river into Plymouth now as I couldn't find any work there. I am the graduate brain drain personifiedNot sure how much of the 'brain' there is in my case though! It seems to be going well so far. I know bits of the town because I was at uni here, but I used to commute- way to expensive! Where are you based?
Oh another Westcountry maid! I live in a village about 20 minutes away from Plymouth.
Thought I had lost my purse today (it was in the draw all along) so had to go to work without it, this actually worked out really well as I could only spend the £5 I had in the car at the supermarket.
Hope everyone has a good day.Credit Card Debt

Hi all, just to say I updated my siggy and we now have to be extra careful to the end of 2008... to beat last year!
Love the clarity article, I am a list maker as well and constantly debating whether Filofax / PDA / online calendars/ Outlook / wall calendar / purse diary / phone etc are best... in the end I use a mix of all of them! I hope that I can sit down and write some goals like that, I guess most of mine start as financial goals (for example, a driving savings pot)...
Whitewing congrats! We did our wedding for a reasonable cost I think... £7k, but, it included a 2 week mediterranean honeymoon cruise... and we had £3k in cash from our mums, so we only really paid £4k all in... not the crazy £18k you hear about...MFW #185

Shaz, the phrase 'being prepared' has never meant so much and it's reached dizzying heights in this household. I only wish I owned the house so I could construct suitable and secure storage in the garden - something like a bomb shelter sounds good! :rotfl:
Sounds like my house i have taken over wardrobes understairs cupboards, hoover cupboards, shelves in garage and under the bed :rotfl:
I had to start a paper recordas i couldn't keep track of it all
Making more chutney and jam and marmalade today and having a go at salting runner beans as the freezer is reaching overload!!!

DFW does your remaining balance for the year include Christmas spending? I've only got £1086.29 left but have already spent £164.80 of the £400 I allocated for gift shopping. I'm hoping that the next electricity bill will be the smallest yet, but it's the stockpiling syndrome that's a little bit worrying. Like it says above, I feel compelled to buy it whilst I can afford it, 'just in case'. Is anyone else having this side effect as a result of suffering chronic frugalitis?
Nope.... But, I've got a healthy balance in my paypal account from selling old stuff, and I plan to buy a lot of presents on ebay! Plus I've got about £70 of vouchers from surveys and Pigsback, so I'm hoping I can stretch the Christmas pressies out of that lot. Luckily I don't have a big family, and no kids to buy for. And I go back to my parents so no food costs either!Debt at highest Nov '06 £17,822.98

Hope you're feeling better SF. The pro/con list sounds like a good idea. If you like the one with less hours, maybe you could ask them for more? Good luck with the decision.Good morning to all and very best wishes to SlowlyFading - any major change in life takes a heap of getting used to, especially when we haven't chosen a particular episode for ourselves. Guess that's why I find it better to attempt the 'nothing shocks me anymore' attitude.
ThanksI think its just the realisation that I'm not going back to university, and that I am no longer a student, but a fully fledged "adult" I also made a lot of friends in my last year who were in their first year (i lived with them) and they're all excited to be going back in a couple of weeks, and its finally sinking in that I'm not going back!
I've been looking at my hours and working and pay etc., and i think that I'm going to ring the hotel I work at and say that I'm handing in my notice. Its not great pay, and its hard work; I'm up at 6am and there for 7, cleaning rooms etc., and I think that that's the one thats making me the most miserable. That means that I'm left with the bakery, which is where I have the most hours, and the book keeping which is 10 hours a week. As stupid as it is,, I love working at the bakery - I get on really well with the rest of ths staff, and I like the customer side too. The book keeping is the start of working in finance I hope, so thats good too, and that's the best paid.
With that in mind, I'm having a nsd today!I'm feeling quietly confident about this challenge now, and I think I've got the budget worked out well. This might change though
Hope everyone is having a good day. xxBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

That's great news SF, well done for working out what's right for you right now :T The uni thing is hard, especially when you live with others who are still part of that system and you're yet to slot into a new one fully. TBH, I was housesharing again for a couple of years with students and even though I was well into my career, a part of me still longed to be back there with them, even though I'd left uni a decade before
I did meet my OH through the house though so not all bad
The West Country contingent grows :T I think that's TTDB, Marru, Redglass, Bluefleur and me - do we outnumber the Scots now?

Apart from finantially I don't know what I want I want to do or what to set my goals as!
I like lists though...
Basically I got round the what to do after Uni question by never actually leavingI now work for a University :rotfl: Not sure its the best choice though :shhh: I STILL don't know what I want to do when I "grow up"
and I graduated 10 yrs ago...
I hope you get good news jobwise SL! Good luck!
I don't know what I'd be like about getting married! I need an OH first! I think I would keep the cost... good value for money! Some things cost a fortune but I'd get the best value (not necessarily the cheapest) for what I do spend I think! I can't see me splashing 1000s upon 1000s unnecessarily but I have no idea about the costs tbh. I think I would want to pay for it myself/ourselves rather than rely on family to foot the bill. I hate and feel guilty they have had to help me out in the past that I'm not sure I could take money from them and still enjoy the day even if it put me into debt to do so. The most important thing to me would be marrying OH in the presence of my family and friends. Everyone would be too shocked to see me looking posh in a dress to notice anything else anyway :rotfl:
