Yeah I completely agree with all the comments.
Does anybody think that Lloyds may now possibly stop issuing the visa card?
I spouse even if they did it would hopeefully only be to their younger customers.

I doubt they'll stop, they might just start seeking parental consent for under 16s. This is what Barclays do, so Lloyds TSB may follow suit0

I wish people would just drop this pointless subject about young people with a debit card, I had exactly the same argument with a woman who could not give a straight, honest nor valid answer to my question "what is the problem here?" still the horror stories continue, it is just jealous adults who are stuck with electron and solo cards who cant comprehend that the modern world has changed, if the kid buy's tabs or drink or !!!!!! on his/her “Visa" debit card then tough !!!!, their is nothing stopping the minor asking an adult to walk into the corner shop and buy it for them, I get asked all the time, say no of course, but their are plenty who will go ahead an make the purchase on their behalf, get over it, kids are growing up and why should they not have a debit card? Is it because you have a poor credit history and the bank trusts them more than they do you? :eek:
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
I'm more worried that kids are using them to buy Viagra. When I was their age I needed something to keep it down, not to get it up. Youth of today!

I saw this story.
Why did the parents of these children let them have a debit card in the first place? When I went to open an account, I think I was advsied by the bank (or my parents asked them to do it) to get an under 19s account. It wasn't until just before I was 18, that I upgraded my account and got a debit card.Until I was about 16 and a half, my mum would constantly peer over my shoulder (trying not to make it obvious) everytime I received some post (as it came when she was at home).
Mine did this as well. Or they went through my post. (because they had no idea who it was for - as me & my sister has the same first initial)0 -
Oooh, lets be paranoid parents...not :rolleyes: , as soon as my two boys are old enough they will be encouraged to use debit cards, they are safer than cash, encourage more responsible spending, if they get stolen or lost then they have only been inconvenienced at the most.
Addendum;
A final thought to all of the "nay sayers" and "control freeks" reading, allow your children to make their own choices in life, they will thank you for it when they get older, their money is...their money, not yours so allow them to spend as they wish, if they make a mistake they will learn from it, you can always guide them and educate them if you wish but please don’t control them as if they are an extension of your egotistical personality.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
I remember some people reacting with similar horror when I got a cheque book when I was 15. I had an account with Girobank who I think were at the time (late 1980s) the only bank to let under 16s use cheques on their account.
But, as it came without an overdraft or guarantee card the damage that could be done with it was fairly limited, and it helped to teach me how to manage money.0 -
Thank you for all the above comments.
I'm glad not the whole country has gone mad!!

Unlike the Sun, sport, mirror, express, etc, etc:rotfl:
I like showing my friends' in different professions - doctors, accountants, lawyers - random articles on subjects they have expertise in, in the Daily Mail because you can see them visibly get furious. Virtually all their articles are inaccurate, miss out key information or the headline has nothing to do with the story.
The other newspapers you mention are just as bad but the papers don't blatantly pretend to be more than they are.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
