oppps - well ive gone and done it! LOL

think I have taken the money saving a bit too far....and also my driving a bit too far.

Im in Leeds and it looked as if on these threads the nearest ASDA with stock was Nottingham, so I drove 100 miles to ASDA nottingham to pick some up.

before you think im too nuts! im lucky to have a fully expensed company car with paid for fuel, so apart from 200 miles of return trip pollution, it didnt cost anything, also I had a free afternoon, as something I was supposed to be doing cancelled.

so I get to ASDA, and shock horror, it says maximum of 6 boxes (36 bottles) per customer, so I had to do the trip a few times.

in total i did "runs", each time filling a trolley with 6 cases, luckily the store was usual saturday afternoon busy so no one paid much attention as i went to 4 different tills.

so i ended up with 24 boxes and 144 bottles!!! at £1.49 each!

it came to 215.56 (incl the 10% off) which comes out at £1.49 per bottle

As we drink 1 bottle every 2 nights then we have about a years supply at 0.75p a night - which is helping me justify it to the missus LOL

just opened one of each variety we got and it tastes great, especially for the money!

still 4 huge pallets in the adsa doorway, if your as mad as me!!

    cheers

Why didnt you just walk out of the store, load the car, and then go back in to buy more, each time instead of driving 200 miles 4 times????!!!!!

Not sure if you are joking or not? He didn't drive to Nottingham 4 times...or I don't think he did...I presumed he did 4 'trips' from the car park to the store.... as I think you'd be pushing it to do Leeds to Nottingham and back 4 times in an afternoon... about 2.5 hours round trip.

Hmmm! That's a lot of driving and a good job you do not try to put a price on your time, something I am trying to do for everything at the moment, in a drive to become more efficient. Mainly failing miserably!

So, what about this for an idea - Have a thread in the 'immediate/urgent' section, like Grabbit, where we can post with a little (but minimal) notice if we are going to be doing a journey like Rich.

Providing it doesn't delay the journey so much, an offer to give someone a lift or to transport some goods would help justify the journey and maybe make a few quid. It certainly qualifies as money saving.

Rich made me think of it as I too live in Leeds area and have to get something won on my Ebay auction to someone near Nottingham. A courier will cost a fair bit and is hassle with packaging too, but I would have happily driven the goods to Rich and arranged for the auction winner to meet him in Asda's car park, for a little beer money (or donation to the wine in Rich's case).

What does everyone think? Apart from being a bit off-topic (sorry), does it have any merit? Or am I imagining something a bit unrealistic.

I'm sure the Forum Gurus could set something up. I'll kick it off with offering rides to people/stuff between Harrogate/Leeds and Bridlington on a regular basis.

sorry my fault, the "trip" refers to the journey from the car boot then 20 yards back into the store, I didnt do 800 miles in 1 day LOL!!!!
