Full Service Price
Options
Hi everyone
Just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how much I should expect to pay for a full service. The last service was done almost 12 months ago (oil/filters only I think, not sure as it wasn't paid for by me and never got to see the invoice!). I think it's probably worthwhile to do a full service with plugs etc this time as I've covered a lot of miles.
I got an online quote from Nationwide Autocentres as AA members get a discount, and was quoted £127. Is this about right? Should I be able to get it cheaper?
I'm not really a fan of the national fast-fit chains but I don't know any local mechanics (I move round the country a lot) so I think although their service tends to be dire for consistency alone I'd be better sticking with them. At least then wherever I get it done I know what to expect. So, which of them is the best; recommendations welcome, and how much should I look to pay to get the job done properly without getting ripped off!
Thanks in advance for your help
Cheers
Rich

Ask a decent AA van driver and he won't recommend Nationwide. Last one I chatted too didn't.
I've had a bad experience with them in the past which nearly cost me a new gearbox! So I may be biased to agree with the 2 AA men I've spoken to about them0 -
A full service for what? a Veron bugatti or a Nissan micra!0

I would say get the oil and filter change by somewhere like National (£20)and buy some spark plugs from local factor and do it yourself (£10), it isn't difficult to change plugs if u have the tool. You can do checks like fluid level - brakes +& pas etc. Your car isn't worth much so spend as less as possible to keep it going.0

If your not handy with spanners I'm sure a poster on here would offer some assistance.
If your close to Bedfordshire, I'd help you in return for you taking my oil container to the local tip, etc.0 -
i would agree .... avoid nationwide autocentres like the plague . the AA lads were right and they are even affiliated with the centers . i used to run a center and you would not believe the pressure you are put under to sell every thing they do . as one poster said take the car to a garage for a oil and filter change , then get the plugs and air filter and do them your self .22864 quid and counting , but now proud to be dealing with it :j

When was the brake fluid last changed? Ignore that at your peril. Coolant is an easy job too.0
