speed camera question??

A couple of points:-
I haven't ever seen Truvelo camera in Scotland (not sure if we have them)
Secondly can some explain to me why cameras do this random flashing for cars going in the wrong direction. It does make you wonder if they really are accurate!!
The Gatso works by sending a radar beam back towards the traffic, then if it registers a speed above the threshold, it takes 2 photos of the vehicle as it crosses the grid lines the other side of the camera. Due to the scatter of the radar beam, vehicles travelling the other way can hit it, and cause the camera to flash.
Accurate? One of these recently clocked a bus doing 89mph. The actual speed of the bus was later proven to be 23. But ACPO and SCPs will spend £000s of public money on court cases to maintain the myth that their cameras are infallible, and it's all about road safety.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. If it flashes twice then yeah - its got you. And they can get you from the other side yes. You are allowed to be over by 10% so in a 60mph you can do 66mph. So you may well get a ticket. soz - just wait it outxXx0

Nonsense; a Gatso can't get you on the other side of the road ie travelling in the opposite direction.0 -

Rubbish - if it flashed twice as they were traveling towards it the machine would register a negative speed as it would be closer on the second reading than the first.
Do not worry you will not be lining Gordons greasy little hands this time. :beer:Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -

They put the markings on all lanes to catch (or stop) "clever" speeding motorists passing speed cameras (at speed) on the "wrong" side of the road.
If you were driving towards this gatso camera you can forget about it taking your photo. You won't hear anything further about it.0 -
cheers to most of you. i thought it was odd to be flashed head on from the other side. up there again this week and try to get exact location - at a slower speed this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0

I've found it much quicker going M40/M42/M6/A74/M74/A702 the join the Ring Road (A720) to get to where you need. It also means as you go through Biggar, you can stop at the butcher's shop that sells the best meat pies in Britain!
