speed camera question??

Options
i travelled back from edinburgh yesterday and i'm 90% sure i was flashed head on by a camera on the opposite side of the road. i was doing about 68 in a 60 area so was wrong. can i be done for this. the markings were on all 3 lanes 2 one way and 1 the other. i think the camera was a gatso? and thought they could only do you from behind is that right?
not sure of exact area but i was going s/e just north of berwick and the camera was in the lane going n/w. maybe the flash was because of breaking the beam? if anyone knows the area there were 2 cameras 1 at the bottom of a slight hill and a one at the top which i think flashed me. any help.

If the camera flashed you head on, it was almost ceratinly a Truvelo.

The good news is that if your speedo read 68, your true speed was probably only 62-63, and if the Lothian & Borders police are following ACPO guidelines, they *shouldn't* give you a ticket as it's under the 10% + 2mph tolerance.

If the car's registered in your name, they have to send you a NIP within 14 days, if you don't get one in that time, you're safe.

You almost definitely won't get a ticket if you were going towards it providing it was a Gatso even if you were speeding. Rumour has it that Gatso's work differently including flashing oncoming traffic when there's no film in them.

It won't be a Truvelo because those cameras use an invisible infrared light.

It isn't invisible and not all of them use the filter.
  • cheers it was a flash infact 2 flashes and don't think it was truvelo. it was only yellow from behind so wasn't visible.

theres a gatso speed camera just outside bath which seems to randomly flash cars in the opposite direction even if your going under the speed limit!
  • cheers chaps. why would the lines be in all 3 lanes? is this just in case of overtaking? not to worry i backed spain to win euro 08 so winnings will more than pay for fine.

So people can't avoid the camera by using the other side of the road. I think they might be there as a deterrent as well.

just to confirm you cant get a ticket from a gatso if its on the other side of the road, they have no way of calculating the speed mate. i get flashed at least once a week going the other way on a camera down the road to me, i complained to a police guy before as it blinds ya for a bit cause its quite a flash, he said slow down, but sometimes you dont even have to be speeding, i dont think there set up right all the time.

do not worry about it mate.

    A couple of points:-

I haven't ever seen Truvelo camera in Scotland (not sure if we have them)

Secondly can some explain to me why cameras do this random flashing for cars going in the wrong direction. It does make you wonder if they really are accurate!!
