Suggestion to stop the Spamers on HERE

My enjoyment of this site is being ruined by the constant postings by the idiots,,you know who i mean.
Is it possible to change the posting rules so that you for example have to have posted on 10 different posts before you can start your own?
i know that this may prevent a few bargains being brought to our attention but it would stop the 1 time posters filling the lists with their bogus posts!
Any other ideas?

My enjoyment of the site is being ruined by people not posting in the right places.
Shouldn't this be in forum feedback etc?
And what's to stop spammers replying to ten threads with spam, then posting new threads from there on, thus requiring even more effort to clean up after them?
Making new posters fill out captchas for their first x posts would help I think. Right now there's one captcha, to sign up. The spam bot sends this image off to captcha filling farms in india or wherever, and a real life human being completes the captcha.
This costs the spammers money. If the first ten or twenty posts required captchas, it'd cost them ten or twenty times as much money to spam.
It'd put off newbies though, so where do you draw the line?
The other alternative I suggested before was to add a post rating modification to the board.
Right now we have thanks, but there's no way to vote something down. Get enough negative votes and the post is disappeared for the abuse board to deal with.
This all requires the forum users to be sensible enough to vote it down, and not to just reply with their favourite hilarous spam jpeg, each time bumping the spam thread to the top of the list. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
Think you have to do something like this on Bobs before you can put a referral link on for instance so i agree with you

i think this idea sounds great! rather than reporting posts, taking the time with the email etc... this negative rating sounds much better. might free up sometime of the mse-admins who get sent off chasing reported posts.

Another thing that stops people even reporting spam is the fact that it's a mailto: link, requiring you to have an email client installed and setup, or a webmail account with the browser setup to intercept mailto: links and redirect them to mailto. With the advent of webmail, the former are getting rarer, and the latter are even more rare. There's no technical reason why the post reporting button can't generate and deliver the email directly, without a mailto:. Making it harder for people to help out makes them less likely to help...They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

personally, i've had situations where posts are blatantly in need of a good 'reporting'. but because i cant be bothered to setup my mail client i dont bother reporting them.'I love being married. It's so great to find the one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life' :heartpuls0 -
Spam posts are usually very obvious. (Bad spelling, no punctuation etc)
The best thing is just to report it via the ! triangle under the username and not comment on the thread (thereby bumping it)
The problem with limiting the number of posts before starting a thread is like weegie.geek says, spammers will post on a few threads before creating a new thread.
Also, coming from the DFW board, a lot of posts on there are 'long time lurkers/first time posters' finally getting the courage to ask for help. If they have to make a minimum number of posts who knows how many might not ever post?

Fact is the posts do get bumped up either by low life or by someone else, the low life sometimes even get thanked by people innocently.0

Yeah, I have to wonder how many people would be put off posting if it was made harder to post. It's not as if spam's hard to ignore. Reporting it can be a pain, and it being a mailto: link is counterproductive. Hell, some ISPs don't even give you popmail these days. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

I don't understand the problem with the reporting link being a mailto...
If you have the internet surely you have email???
