I've ordered the Sony one but have now also ordered a Canon MVX300 Mini DV Camcorder from Kays catalogue - same type of deal at half price.
I'll return one of them within the seven days.

I am looking for a digital camcorder but was after a dvd one. Any thoughts on whats better or pros and cons between dvd and tape?
Thanks:j BABY A :j0 -
deanos is right, dont touch the DVD camcorders, give them 2 years more development and they will be great but now they are not too clever.
as regards the comments on here re the PC53 quality...well it depends what you are looking for, im a sucker for anything Sony and have had most of the vertical matchbox style sony camcorders in the last 8 years, starting with the dcr-pc1, the the pc5, pc9, pc100 and a couple of others.
if you want a point and shoot that you can grab out of a small carry case/handbag, flick on and get simple straight forward video then this is a great little camcorder.
if white balance and editing and manual focus and stunning quality then this isnt for you, but for £252 you cant go wrong, point and shoot with a great size means you are going to take it everywhere when otherwise you might have left it at home if it was any bigger.
for playback on tv you will get some good clean, crisp footage
cheers

Enough of the techie talk!!! .....

1. Am I going to be able to simply download from the camera, to my PC, using cables supplied, save the footage in whatever format I need to (VCD/SVCD?/MPEG/Whatever) and burn it, (I have full Nero deal) onto a CD or DVD-R ...... The CD for use in a computer with a CD drive, and the DVD for use in a DVD player or DVD in PC?
2. Can I take the footage from the Sony DCR PC53, convert to a digital format, (is it digital already) and edit it on a basic laptop? (PB E6100)
3. Bearing in mind I am upgrading from a 10 year old Panasonic VHS-C camcorder, when we are talking image quality for the Sony DCR PC53, are we talking about run of the mill video camcorder quality? better than? worse than?

Argos are selling this Samsung miniDV camcorder for £199.99 which seems to have similar spec to the Sony, and a lot cheaper too, as you are not paying for the overpriced Sony brand name.
